You can bring 'proof' of the money like an ATM statement from the date you started your travel to Canada.

You could also bring traveler's checks - very safe.

I have a follow up on this (So I don't create another thread)

Can the ATM statement be from a USA bank? Or some other country for that matter

You need to provide evidence of Canadian-equivalent dollars. How you do that is up to you, but you need to convince the immigration officer that you have sufficient funds. If you come in with something attesting to Pakistani currency, for instance, they're not going to accept it. So be prepared to prove your funds in Canadian dollar terms.

Hi Skilled Worker,

When are you going to land? I would advise a travellers cheque as they are done over the counter and take 2 - 3 days. You could also ask your local bank to make Canadian Dollar Draft of the $12000 which can be deposited once you arrive and open account in canada. The only problem with a Bank Draft it will take atleast 5 days to clear or deposited in your account while a travellers cheque you will have you money immediately at the time you present them in any bank. You also have to be careful with which bank the issuing bank will be depositing the draft to. So confirm the depositing bank so that you exactly know which bank to go to, otherwise if you take them to a different depositing bank they might ask to charge you or reduce the mount. All this is business and the bank that cannot cash the draft wont advise you which bank to go to as they need your dollar and open an account with.

The easy answer is try to take as much possible. Try to bring at least the minimum funds as per CIC website for your family size.
If you really can't, a few thousand dollars just for you to get started in the few months, for your own good.
CBSA officer may or may not request to see your funds. You're not required however, to bring all the funds you initially declared in your application. They're not expecting anyone to do that because they are aware of some countries' currency policies, but if you're landing with just 50$ and without additional proof of funds, that could cause some problems.
Whatever the amount is, bring some documents that show you have funds in your bank account at home. That could be updated bank letters or statements.
