Should we file tax

Hi,

We became PR in April 2016. Stayed for 15 days only. We returned to Quebec permanently in August 2018. We have been told to file tax return, from 2016, even though we didn’t take up residence from April 2016 to August 2018. I Should we file our taxes for the above mentioned period ?

If you didn't establish any significant ties you shouldn't be considered a tax resident just because you landed and stayed 15 days. Your first tax return should be filled in 2019 for the tax year 2018. If in doubt you may call the CRA to confirm.
