My IELTS score for L / R / W / S are 8 / 7.5 / 7 / 7 respectively.

Based on http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-language-converter.html, seems like my score translates to :
FSW First Language points - 6
CRS points - 31

If I try again and manage to get into a better band score, the points difference is 3, that too only for CRS points but it doesn't impact FSW First Language points.

I will be losing 5 more points because of my age in few months. Is it advisable for me to re-take the IELTS and aim for a higher band score? I am yet to create my express entry profile as I am yet to get my ECA done.

Experts please advise.

Thanks.

Your IELTS score looks good. Calculate the total points you will have post ECA. You can use CRS Calculator to play around.

I am not sure what your current CRS score is. If it is on the borderline (close to ITA score, like say anything above 450), even 1 point makes a big difference. But if it is below 450 (because in the past ITA score has never gone below 450), from what I have observed over a period of time, it does not make any difference with regard to direct ITA (unless the score crosses 450 with the new IELTS score), so the applicant will have to pursue PNP. So you need to weigh the cost-benefit in terms of your current CRS and proceed accordingly. Use the CRS calculator to see how IELTS score can affect your CRS and by how much, then you can take a call.

Thanks JK_CAD, lulu lemon3 and Stanlee for the responses.

lulu lemon3 - I guess it would make more sense to re-take the IELTS if we are missing out on ITA just by few points. The IELTS people in Dallas are kinda weird. When I appeared for the test and wrote my address on the envelope to return my score sheet in, they told me that I wrote my zip code wrong and asked me to pay $25 to just re-mail the score. When clearly I had written my zip code correctly on the envelope (they mailed me that envelope too along with the score sheet).

And last week, I get another score sheet in the mail from them. They seem to be kinda shady lol. The test fees itself is $215 and that too for a totally paper-based test, it is overpriced! I think its a little bit of an expensive affair to re-appear for the test and also like you said, I am scared that my score might not improve much either.

Hi,

I have written IELTS from British council Two weeks before that is 30/04/2016. My result was not up-to the mark.
Can I immediately take IDP in coming next month which is on 19th of June 2016.

How many months I have to wait for another attempt?

Kindly help me out.

Thanks in Advance.

Best Regards,
Yezdan.

Thanks. Good luck to you too.
I read multiple posts that IDP/whoever holds this IELTS intentionally doesn't give us the score that we rightly deserve, so that we would be compelled to re-take it. Its annoying that an agency whose test is valued by so many countries would do something like this. Corruption is just everywhere I guess!

You can appear any number of times, there is no waiting period to appear for the next test. If dates are available, then go for it.

I'm in the same boat. My scores below:
Listening-8.5
Reading-8.5
Writing-7
Speaking-7.5

I'm sure I did better than the score says, for writing so planning to go for a review. My questions, is there a chance that the score may go down after the review? Not that it would but if it indeed went down, I'm in danger of losing 50 points as I wouldn't make the cut of CLB9 in all modules.

Why do you want to revise scores? At max you can get 3 more points if you improve your writing to 7.5

Since you already have CLB 9 equivalent score, which can fetch you maximum CRS points (50+50), it is better that you don't file in for revaluation.
It will hardly make any difference to your overall CRS points score.
Revaluation or review is advised only if you obtain CLB 8 and are expecting CLB 9. As in this case, the difference of 0.5 band in either Writing (mostly) or Speaking leads to a massive difference of 58 CRS points.

Prat6 and Sushsmart.. I agree that the difference is just 3 points. But my current CSR is 464, which is borderline with the current trend and even 1 point in this range matters a lot, as we have seen and hence the dilemma.
