I've been writing our cover letter for our Spousal Sponsorship and at one point, I wrote -

We decided to get married and start the process of (applicant's name)'s Permanent Residence immediately.

Will the Immigration Officers see this as a red flag? I mean of course we love each other and we have strong proofs of our relationship. Just wondering whether to include this in our cover letter or not? Or maybe just re-write it? Did anybody else write this in their Cover Letter?

Looking forward to your thoughts...

No, no I would not put that.
I read that as a stranger and instantly think convenience even though I assume otherwise but what will the IO think. I don't think they assume otherwise, they just assume the obvious laid out to them.

We had a rather quick marriage after our engagement, not quite 3 months. Our reasoning I expressed was that we had discussed our ideas of engagements and both of us did not agree on a long engagement or saw the point in it. We both didn't see the point in having a long engagement since we were only having a small intimate wedding and didn't need half a year or more to plan it. We wanted to keep friends and family excited about our marriage plans and not have be saying "Finally, its about time they had the wedding" type of thing.

so sorry Love_Young. I put the topic back up now. Just getting all paranoid here, you know... :) Not sure what to do at times. Thank you for your feedback though. It's just that I think I found the answer to my question. I think it's okay to add this just as long as I explain that we are not getting married just for the PR application but because we love each other as well. And for us to be together, we need to apply for PR immediately.

What do you think of this reasoning?

I wouldn't mention anything about getting married so quickly.

For the cover letter? as in, the letter that sits on top of the entire application? All I did was ask them to find our application for permanent residency and sponsorship attached. And gave a brief outline of the three sections of the application and what could be found in each section

ie.: 1) Sponsor's section including all sponsor's forms and supporting documents
2) Applicant sections, including all applicants forms and supporting documents EXCEPT proof of relationship documents
3) proof of relationship section including - cards, photos, phone records etc etc etc

Then we said something about being very excited about starting our new life in Canada, and thanks in advance for your consideration and approval.

very simple - the details of our case is in the documents themselves - the applications and the supporting stuff, no need to put 'history of the relationship' stuff in the cover letter, in my opinion.

Haha that is okay. It was just confusing because I finished typing it and then I refresh the page and the topic was gone.

I would just say that you married soon because you wanted to be together sooner not because you wanted to apply sooner. Even though you would like to say that, it is important to tell the truth but not be so truthful that it can come back to bite you just because you didn't word something in the right way that you wanted to be interpreted, you know what I mean?

But truth be told, I think a lot us here including myself, would be lying if we said that immigration didn't somewhat inspire us to get married sooner. Though most of the time that is not the main reason just some influence. My husband and I always wanted to get married but if we had been from the same country, we probably wouldn't have been for another year or two. But neither one of us regrets getting married so soon and I think I am even more in love with him now that I know we have a unique and special thing that unites us. It is a good feeling.

I hope everything goes well for you. Just remember to trust your gut and instincts and let your heart speak the words for you. This was how I found it the easiest to write our letter.

We've been engaged for 10 months now and our original plan was to get married next year. We really are in no hurry to marry each other. But with the recent circumstances in our lives, the best way for us to be together as soon as possible is for us to apply for a PR. And in order to do that, we need to get married first. I understand that sometimes, being to truthful can hurt an application more than help it. That's why I posted this topic to see what you all think. As I was typing it, I realized that the content of our cover letter was more than just that sentence. It's the events that culminated which led us decide to get married AND apply for PR. It's just that when I wrote that sentence, it made me a little worried. But now after reading the entirety of the letter, I feel okay with it.

But still, won't hurt hearing what you guys think. :)
