Hi,
Does anyone have any experience shipping your things to Canada with a container ship?
Specifically, I'd like to know
-how much did it cost?
-are there things you have to pay attention to in regards to packing your things?
-were there extra fees at the harbour in TO?
-any other info that I need to know?

Thanks so much!
Ange

ange,

charges for shipping goods to canada will depend from where you are shipping. there are many factors such as route, surcharges and documentation charges in addition to the basic ocean freight. if your origin is far from the port of origin there might be additiona haulier charges. please contact couple of shipping agencies and take quotes. with the current economy situation many carries are sailing under load and will negotiate the rates. try to contact major shipping agencies to avoid middle men charges. the basic ocean freight from asia, europe to canada is around $800 -$1200. additional documentation and port handling charges and hauliers can vary depending on your origin and destination.

Try closer to $4K-$6K for a container from UK to Canada, including packing.

And we were quote 5500 EURO. Now I've discovered that its possible to rent pallets on a container, that way you're charged for the cubic meters that you used rather than a full container.
I read somewhere to cut out the middleman and go directly to the 'ship' people but I ahve no idea how to go about doing that...
Also, if the person immigrating sends their stuff they ahve to pay taxes on it in Europe. If I (CDN citizen) send my stuff I ahve to pay taxes in canada. Anyone know anymore about that?

Ange can you please share where exactlly you found the shipping option that allows to rent pallets?

Thanks,
V.

Many relocation companies charged by cubic meters rather than a full containers.

Any recommandations please?
Thanks,
V.
