Applied for my husband 10 months after marrying, so not quite a year, but almost.
Absolutely no problems. We never explained why we took 10 months to apply, and we were never asked. He got Decision Made in 5 months, and had COPR 3 weeks after that.
My husband did visit me once more before we applied, and the once again while the app was in process before they requested the proof of relationship (we waited for them to ask rather than send it at the beginning) and we took a trip together somewhere, which we used as more proof. So that may have helped. If you take long to apply but don't visit each other either during that time, then yes, it might raise questions.
