This has been mentioned NUMEROUS times on the forum but I will mention it again.

Your PR status and PR card are completely different entities. Your PR card expiry has no bearing on your PR status and needless to say, no bearing on your SIN, work in Canada or your Citizenship application.

Yes, you can apply to renew your PR card now.

Also, if you factor in the current Covid-19 related processing delays, we might be looking at much more than 12 months of processing time.
Thank you for this information - it's super helpful! Sorry I didn't see it mentioned previously, I'm not too sure how to use the search engine I guess. Just wondering if I don't lose my PR status is there a need to renew my PR card or can I just let it expire and wait however long for my citizenship application to go through? I guess I would not be able to travel outside of Canada without it that would be the only thing right?

You only need your PR card if you are planning to travel outside Canada and wish to come back on a commercial carrier. That is, you can leave Canada without a PR card but to get back in on a flight, for instance, you need a PR card or a PRTD (Permanent Resident Travel Document).

The link to the Google sheet is in my signature. I will add your details. Let me know once the application has been received.

The application is initially processed at Sydney, NS office and then sent to the local visa office based on your location.
The local VO gets it after "in Progress"? Do they even have a local VO in Saskatchewan (cries in prairies)?

I sent my application on Aug.30, will be delivered on Sep. 4th. Good luck to everyone here.
