NO. Only if you have stayed in the US for 6+ months, (just like you would for any other country you have stayed for that length of time).

Oh ok - Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification!

So does everyone now have to provide FBI clearance or is this something only for US applicants?

It's only for US applicants. :)

Hi we got the same email! A bit bummed out about it but we did inquire about the processing time to the CIC. They responded back with this:

"Hello,

Thank you for your email.

Please provide the copy of the updated passport and proof that you have applied for the FBI certificate. We are aware of the long processing times for the FBI certificates and your application will not be negatively affected by it, as long as we have the proof that the certificate has been applied for.

Thank you for your continued interest in Canada.

Regards,
Case Processing Centre – Ottawa (CPC-O) – Family Reunification Unit – ST13757
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
CPC-Ottawa, NHQ - Centralized Processing Region
CPC-CTD-Ottawa@cic.gc.ca"

Hopefully, it's true that it won't negatively affect our application and won't delay the process! We immediately got it done and sent them a copy of the documents.

That is very helpful!! Thank you. I paid by money order and just have the receipt portion. Oh well, its still proof :)

We just got an email from a CIC officer in reference to another request for a photo of my wife's passport after we already had sent it to them. The good news is that they told us they were in the final stages of our application even without an actual copy of the FBI Background Check.

I just want to give you a little bit more confidence in reference to your situation. :) Hopefully, this means my wife will be here well before the summer.

So my application got returned today because apparently in the Generic Application Form (Page 2 Contact Information Q1), I mentioned my Canadian address for my wife's current mailing address, as my wife is currently living with me on this address on a TRV.

They said and I quote "A correction to the mailing address specified on the Generic Application Form for Canada (IMM0008) to reflect the mailing address of the Principal Applicant; or, if the Principal Applicant wishes to have correspondence mailed to the address specified, a completed and signed Use of a Representative form (IMM 5476) is required for the authorization of release of documents and information to the individual residing at this address."

In this case, should I enter her Indian mailing address?

Request some urgent assistance as I need to rectify and send this application again tomorrow.

Cheers!

If you are applying out land, then you can't use a Canada address for the principal applicant. Because that would indicate to CiC that something is wrong.

My advice - you should use her Indian address, and ensure that whenever anything is sent , someone can in turn send it to you in Canada.

But if u have provided a email address in the form, then all correspondence will b by email.

I applied Outland and I put the Canada address for my residence & mailing address. My application has went through okay. It confuses me why some of us can do this and it works, but others can't.

It should work for you too if the PA sign the use of representative ( you ) form , CIC will send all the mail to the address in that form ( you should put your name and address ) , however the mail will be coming from your overseas Visa Office and it may take very long time to get to you .

Yes you can put a Canadian address when you apply outland, that's what I did. You just need to be sure that you are consistent with when you are filling the questions with where you lived the last 10 years, you have to include your Canadian address as your current address.

Thank you for writing this stephcy. There seems to be some real confusion with this lately. Lots of incorrect information floating around. It does make sense that they need to be consistent with their answers on all of the forms & questions. I knew that it was possible to put the Canadian address as the current residence & mailing address. It has to match in all aspects of the forms or CIC will question it and return the application.

Smiles!!

Hi everyone. I just got an email today from my VO requesting 4 new passport pictures to be mailed out to them. Does this mean I am getting closer to getting DM or is it just normal procedure and I should still expect a few more months to pass before I get any other positive updates?

My husband got the email today so he is beyond excited like me :D
