Today I got my test letter too for local office Vancouver. My time line is as under:

Application received for citizenship grant on 22nd April 2014

Started processing application on 27th June 2014

Citizenship test @ Vancouver office on 19th February 2015

Oath taking date: ?????? ???????

An update from an early September applicant: my wife passed the test in Mississauga today and got an oath invitation on the spot for the 30th of January! The full timeline is in the signature.

We received your application for Canadian citizenship (grant of citizenship) on September 26, 2014.

We sent you a letter acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on January 6, 2015. Please consider delays in mail delivery before contacting us.

We started processing your application on January 14, 2015.

Your file was transferred to the office responsible for your area on January 20, 2015. The office responsible for your area will contact you.

My file transferred to Citizenship Guy-Favreau office...

This contradicts to what I was told by a CUC agent - He said it is the local office that does the mandatory background checks, not Sydney.

wow I am completely confused right now. Did they really say this?

I agree ! Its the case with atleast the new applicants e.g. my son's application was transferred to the local office after just one day of getting in process. Needless to say that the BG checks were completed (at Sydney) in just one day , unless they were already done before getting in process .

The way I imagine it is :
1. Sydney sends the requests to RCMP and the other authorities/institutions that check your background.
2. Sydney changes your status to "In Process" .
3. Sydney sends your application to the Local office.

Sydney does not have to wait for the results from your background check in order to send your application to the Local office.
Once the results from the background check are over they are entered into the system which is accessible from both Sydney and the local office.

Test date-Jan 21, 2015(Yellow letter printed on Dec 31, 2014, received letter on Jan 05, 2015- )
Oath Ceremony- Jan 30, 2015

Tips for exam preparation--Read the book 3 times. Online practice questions are useless. (Dont worry about the years except 1812 and 1867). Read the book after receiving as u wont have much time left once u receive the 'test date' letter
