Does anyone know about the requirements/nuances of a green card? Are they much difficult than the PR?

Finally September applicants started getting PR requests
Applicants who got MR by May receiving PR requests only this month.
Will they start background / security checks only after MR ?

Hi Braveman. In my case, I'm certain that they first completed my MR, but Criminality had been started lot earlier - since last October. Then my criminality check passed on end july and till mid august they were working on my background security check. I got an email from them, that's how i learned.

So I'm not sure if its a standard order of their procedure (you know CIC well now..nothing is standard), but in my case they started security after criminality was passed.

Got a message saying that my application for a BOWP is accepted and it should arrive within 6 weeks in the mail. A bit of relief knowing that I won't have to leave the country while my application is being processed. Now if they could just give me a MR I would feel that much more relieved. Nice to see a PR for our group after such a long wait!!

Cheers InfoSeeker! Well I'm lucky that I am currently on a holiday working visa so I can come and go between jobs but I've been at the same job for over 3 years now. Yeah I got my notes last month and my eligibility was recommended pass and they were in process of criminal check. This would have been early June so I'm not sure what process, if any, has occurred since.

I need personal suggestion.I applied my pr on sept 27 2012. Since today i hvnt got my medical . I am already engaged . she lives in India. our Family wants us to marry next month . Is it ok If I marry her next month and add her to my file or should i tell my family to wait until i get my pr .After Pr is it easy to sponsor her . Bec, she said she will not live alone after marriage . Can i quit my job after pr and go to India and live with her until she get pr too. Or is it better now ???

am really tensed what is the best step?

Hi CEC.

Firstly, Congrats buddy for getting 'double' from single. Few questions for you to think:

1- Are you on a WP or BOWP? Incase, you have to leave next month, will you be able to return back to Canada?

2- If you married her now, you'll need to update CPP-O with the marriage certificate and her official documents, i guess things like her birth certificate, passport, police certificate etc. (applicants who added their spouses during the process pls jump in.)

3- Marrying during the process will only slightly delay the process. Processes, like criminality and background check takes time. So if you are adding one more person in your file, naturally it will take longer. However, if you add her soon enough, before they start checking your criminality/background, I guess then it won't take any extra time. So have you ordered a GCMS yet to see at what stage is your application right now? (its a free online request, so dont pay any money for it, read the instructions carefully, takes 30 days to process the request...https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/welcome.do)

4- Living alone issue. Hmm..not sure how she is living right now, but if i were you i'd convince her that a hubby has to pay the bills and bring the bread to the table...or in her case, pay for her ticket to come to Canada too . (pls dont say that to her, its just b/w the bros). But if you really think that is the way to go, then you will have to wait for the PR. You haven't got medical yet right? These days the time between medical and PPR is getting lesser- like 2-3 weeks. Suppose:

You get Medical Request by 20 Sep - you'll get appointment in 2-3 days. results sent in a week.
By 11th October you can get PPR - on average PPR takes around 20 days to return.
by 1st November you may get your passports back and COPR. You do the landing same day. Then around 1st February 2014, you will get your PR card.

Is your fiance going to wait that long? Can you wait that long?

I say go now for a week or two, however long you can get off from work and get married. Get all the official papers for her and bring it back and submit to CPP-O. (preferably fedex it from there to save time).

Braveman, I must have filled the table out wrong. My passport hasn't been requested yet. 13-June-2013 was the date that medicals were requested at CIC. Medicals were received June 20.

Last week I was asked for biodata and fees, though! So here's hoping, my stomach is doing such flip-flops.

No worries. This happened to few applicants on this forum. They received the mail but the pdf attachment was not there in the email. If your lawyer has already asked for it, then they will be sending it in couple of days.

In the meantime, you may want to get an appointment from the doctor. Are you in Toronto?
