This issue has been eating me up so I would ask for Seniors to please respond or anyone with a similar situation
In 2019, I helped my parents fill up the permanent residency application form. My parents were failed refugee immigrants so we were expecting an ARC. Fastforward to 2022, the ARC was approved and my parents and I were ecstatic. A few days ago, I came across a post that talks about 5 year ban and misrepresentation and read it. I realized that we could be dinged for the same thing.
Basically, on the question that states, have you been refused entry to canada or any other country, We said yes, and detailed the whole refugee application up to the day they left. Now, I realized that we missed to include an refusal for US visa 22 years ago. Upon further talks with my parents, we realized that we missed to declare a Canadian TRV application in June 2012 as well (this was a few months after they were deported).
Now, our application is still open, and we were just requested medicals. I have sent a webform with a letter detailing the items we missed. Within the letter mentioned that we thank them for continuously processing our application and giving us ARC.
QUESTION: Was this the right move? I'm so scared that we are going to get a procedural fairness letter. Or that they might cancel the ARC or say we misrepresented. I consulted with a lawyer and they said its better to declare it late so long as the application is still going but that no one knows how IIRC will react to it.
Please let me know your thoughts. It was an honest mistake as we were so focused on discussing the deportation issue that we missed the US refusal which was 22 years ago and the TRV application
