No it is not true, i mean it does not have to be only "after" medicals, in my case they started doing the security checks even before they start processing my application because i got a letter from them before they start the processing asking me to submit a fingerprint police clearance from canada, and only after they received it, they started the processing of my application. Therefore, it is being conducted before and after the processing begins.

Ur case might be exceptional but normally they do security check after medical
And this surprising, even they got RPRF fee
According to sense they should all the things before medical
Medical should be final stage
I have finished my medical 4 months back, interview three months back
But now they have started doing security checks
Sir this is totally starange

Which visa office ? i know that they should all follow the same steps but in fact, each of them has its its own procedures.

In the medical request letter i got from Buffalo it says that i have to do the medical as soon as possible and warning me that if i don't, i will be the reason of any unnecessary delays that might happen in the processing of my application.

It says as well that if there is an interview scheduled, i must not do the medical until they ask me to do so, in order to avoid the risk of affecting the expiry date of my medical test.

From the language of their letter, it does not show at all that they start the background and security checks only when they receive the medical results for two reasons:

- They are very concerned about the expiry date of the medicals.
- They have no idea about how long it is going to take them to finish those checks, so where is the point of asking the applicant to do the medicals before conducting this kind of uncertain checks which might take up to one year or more in some cases to be finished.

I know that it happens sometimes and applicants reach the expiry date of their medicals, but let me say that many cases were asked to submit certain documents along with the medicals which they did not for some reasons (or at least did not send what was asked for exactly), and this in turn has led their cases to go through long background checks. other cases were the IOs mistakes when they asked for the medicals in the wrong time (very early before they finish their background checks), which affected the expiry date of the medicals for those applicants.

There is no standard base or any official source from CIC says that the background and security checks are conducted only after medicals.

in fact due to huge no of applications they have to deal with, & their commitment to process every application,it happens that this variation occur , so st we see the s. checks come early sometimes late. st the medicals come fast , st latethat is normal

My VO is London
They will not mention in medical letter about security checks. But if u send them email to enquire ur application status, they wil definitely repy that they r doing background check being done on ur file.
This is common paractice they r doing in almost all CHCs.
Thnx

Security Checks involve many external agencies [beyond the CIC/CHC] viz. CSIS, NASC database, Interpol, Local Police etc. The timeframe [& repercussions] of which is [sometimes] not in their control. They wouldn't want to go into the extent of checking us if eventually we fail the meds. So, it's done post meds.

After our meds r ratified, they r sure that our case file fit the bill for a Canadian PR, it's only a verification of our security & criminality that pegs the keg now.

Hope that clarified your quench.
