@ LINE,

sorry for answering to your PN on the thread but for some reason I am not allowed to send personal messages and I can't figure out how to change this. I cannot find any setting for this in my profile.

What do you mean by you were given limited stay? As a tourist? Isn't this always the case no matter how often they let you in? Or did they give you like explicitly only 3 months and not a day more for example?

We are kind of in the same situation and at the same time we are not. As I understand from your post/PN you where literally traveling back and forth between C and DK? Whereas I only left C once since I came here and always extended my stay from within C.

But like you I was told that this is not a long-term solution and that I should figure out something else and that I might get refused the next time traveling to Canada as a tourist.

That's why I came up with the IEC for a solution. I also applied from within C (I understand you did the same thing), sent my application to Germany and got my LOI by email. I will leave C in march and come back in April. So, as for your question on how I managed to get back in with the IEC visa: I haven't tried yet and I will see what happens. Anyways we have no other choice right?

I am also very scared that for some reason they won't let me back in. Especially, since I run the risk of "losing my son" over this. But in moments like this I just try to reason myself. I did nothing illegal. I have never overstayed, I always extended my tourist visa in time, I have always been honest about the reasons for the extension. Also, within my IEC application I mentioned and proved the fact that I have a son and a common-law partner in C. So, what I am trying to say is that THEY have always been aware of my situation, THEY always decided to extend my stay, let me back in, give me the IEC visa, THEY told me to find another solution (what I did). The fact of being a visitor to C for more than the usual 6 months, extending your stay, going back and forth may not please them, but it is not against the rules, otherwise this option wouldn't exist. At least, it is your right until the day they will refuse you entry or extension. If they really think you have been visiting too much they wouldn't have let you in the last time. It is also your right to apply for a work permit under the IEC (or else) after being a tourist. Of course, it will be the customs officer at the boarder who will have the last say in this matter, but he will rely on the fact that you have been granted the IEC visa for a good reason. And he knows that the IEC department certainly did a background check on you and was well aware of your situation.

I know this is not much of a help but there is nothing you can do about it right now. You did all you can, you are in your rights, you did nothing wrong, there is no apparent reason for refusing you at the boarder. Just keep this in mind and play it like "Here I am, I came up with a solution for my situation".

Honestly, I don't know what to advise you. So far, I am the one playing it 8) , but I think by April I will be as scared as you are right now. All I can do is wish you all the best and that everything goes well. Keep us posted.

Concerning your question about the return flight:

A FAQ on the homepage of the Canadian Embassy in Germany deals with the very same question:

Q: Is a one-way ticket sufficient for the entry to Canada if I have a LOI?

A: Yes, you can enter Canada with a one-way ticket only. However, you must be able to prove that you have sufficient financial means to buy a return ticket.

Hello again - no problem i'll just post on here too.

Well i've travelled back and forth between the UK (i used to be a UK resident) but i have then moved back to Denmark. But i did it frequently for about 5 times where as first time i went, i travelled to Hawaii and back again and i had no idea that was bad. But my 5th trip out i got pulled in, and the officer barely let me in and he typed stuff down on the computer. He was concerned about my trip. Well they obviously know that i have a bf there - we're not in a common-law relationship yet, but all my visits have been to stay with him. They've always given me 6mths, but this time it was only for the duration of the trip i booked. Mind you i was stupid and travel back to C after 3 weeks back home.

So i put down "single" in my application.

The thing that really bothers me is that i don't know how all this flagpole is gonna turn out. A senior told me to bring my boyfriend with me and tell them that we're applying for sponsorship - just to lay everything out on the table and be honest so they don't think i come in and stay illegally for example. But yet the nerves are taking the better of me right now..

As for return ticket i haven't bought any. I have a bank statement from Denmark with my name and adress that's the same as my postal address but it's in a Danish currency.

I went home and sent it from the UK - don't think that makes any change. I have my physical address in DK :-)

You're totally right.. Visiting too much and getting told that's a no no shouldn't really cause anything. But i'm logged in the system i know it and i told the officer (when i came out this time as a visitor) that i was planning on returning - even though i applied for my IEC before, but it wasn't received at the embassy by that time.. So i didn't mention it because i wasn't sure if it was gonna be approved.

I am SO scared to say the wrong thing - and if i should just tell them everything or only let them know about my boyfriend and my visits if they ask?

I totally see why you're concerned that might happen.. That wouldn't be good. It's a good thing they already know you have a common-law partner and a child in C - so they at least know it. I doubt you'll be in trouble. And yet still when the final day is sneaking up around the corner it's still making one nervous.

I'll definitely let you know. I don't think they will refuse me entry because i don't bring any luggage with me and i don't have a visa to the US (i'm getting an administrative refusal letter from them) so then that means i'll have to come back into Canada. I'm just gonna bring my boyfriend, my LOI and documents and myself - then take it from there.

I read your first post again and now i see i've came across the same thing. I changed my address to Denmark and i was allowed the IEC visa after proving i resided in Denmark. But i sent the application from the UK (considering i was visiting my parents there) but i think it'll still be as following: Country where applying (question 8) i put "same as current country of residence" which is Denmark cause i live there. So i hope i haven't done anything wrong there - they still issued my LOI!

Oh what a jungle of confusion this is ha.

heyho guys,

how are you? finally, i'm not the only german here.... wohoooo

i'm in the same situation....my "Young Professional" Work Permit will expire @ July 31st. I already used the WHV in 2010/2011.
But, i already applied for P.R. in October 2011, Buffalo,NY, already having my CSQ.

I'm looking for a way to extend my time here based on THIS permit. Is it true, i read today i can ask for another Year. I have to mention on the form that i applied for PR and I will add my File number.

you think i have a chance that way?

Immigration Call centre is useless. Sry.

What sort of questions were you asked when you obtained your WHP visa?

what do you mean with "what sort of questions" ? ::)

When you arrived in Canada to obtain your working holiday/international experience visa - what questions were you asked? i'm going to obtain mine on sunday. just curious :)

ah, i see....:)

i arrived in Montreal, it took an eternity,...people over people....and only 3 counters open to check in...

anyway,...they where very friendly...."she" asked nothing special actually, make sure you pay attention if it comes to the expiry date,....it happened twice to me that they didn't know for how long it is actually valid. the first time she typed it wrong, and i was scared at first, because she said it is only valid for 6 months....lool....scared the s*it out of me for a second. I said to her why isn't it 1 year like it said in the paperwork ?....well, she agreed, excused herself and started again. took about 30min. The second time was similar.

They were friendly, but strict. No need to be nervous. make sure you got your proof of funds or return ticket, they inspected mine.

If you arrive at Montreal Trudeau Airport, try to get a seat not to far in the back. The Airport seems to be to small for me, and if everyone get out at once and literally storms to the passport counters...there are mostly only (in my case) 4-5 counters open....and it takes an eternity....once it took me 2 hours until i left the airport !!! In toronto Pearson it was fast, even if there were many many more people around, i left the airport after 20min....

any more questions ? :)

oh right i see. ya i can imagine they're strict. i'm already in Canada (Alberta) and i need to go to the Montana border to obtain my visa. I'm just getting a little nervous about not being let in. I've visited Canada so many times and this time when i came out i was told that's not really an option any more. so uh-oh i've been warned and told that i'll get pulled into secondary immigration if i came out as a visitor again. just little nervous that'll have an effect of me coming out.

Did she ask you anything about yourself - like what you do for a living, have any relatives or such in Canada etc?

Because i'm driving down there with my boyfriend and he's most likely gonna come with me so i can tell the IO that we're gonna apply for sponsorship asap as we're eligible. - but i don't even know if they like hearing that? maybe i'm just really nervous.

thanks for your reply :)

mh....its been a while....i think that she asked me where i'm going to live, (the first time with WHV) and if I have relatives here in canada. but the conversation was very smooth.....you don't feel like being in an interrogation :) even if it was one.. :D i just handed over my return ticket without being asked...... the second time i haven't been asked anything.....she just kept typing,..the permit-part was done in 15min tops...(Toronto last year)

what do you mean with that? never heard that one before.... secondary immigration?

oh really? i'm definitely just gonna play it honest and say i'm staying with my boyfriend and he's gonna support me even though i have funds to support myself. i'm not bringing any proof of return flight though.. IEC in Sweden told me i didn't have to get one right awayas soon as i can prove a return ticket. :)

Secondary immigration is where you go when you obtain your visa - but it's definitely not a place you'd like to be when you come in as a visitor - cause that's most likely gonna mean you're in trouble lol.

i can't describe why i'm nervous right now - i try not to but my mind is just all over the place right now.

im trying to send you private message but doesn;t work...maybe your mailbox is full?!

it might be try and send one again in a minute

:( still doesn't work , don't know why.... error message.... "Message not implemented" ......Post.....\discussionboard.....ect grrrr

Hmmm that's very strange. did you get my personal message?
