Hi

Hello all, i am a UK citizen married to a Canadian citizen (6yrs). I want to make an application for my Wifes sponsorship and my OWP as per the 'One Year Pilot – Issuance of open work permits to applicants for permanent residence under the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class'

What i wanted to understand is can i do this 'Outland'? if yes how?

And if not and i have to do this Inland, can i apply for both the sponsorship and OWP at the same time?

Thanks :) :) :)

Also i note the CIC website states "New SCLPC applicants should complete a permanent residence application and an open work permit applications, include the appropriate fees, and submit both simultaneously to the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga."

But does not mention when to make the Sponsor application, can this all be done at the same time?

Thanks :)

You cannot apply for the OWP if you submit an Outland application.

You need to send both parts of the sponsorship application (Application to sponsor and the application for PR) together (and the OWP if applying Inland), along with all of the required documents, including the proof of your relationship with your sponsor. Most people send three folder/packages, within one large parcel, box or...crate, for some people. ;)

The cost for the OWP is now $255 (was $155). The total cost for your PR application is $1040 (includes sponsor's fee, applicant's fee and RPRF fee).

Good luck!

Note that processing times for UK applicants are much shorter than those typical of inland processing times. UK applicants go from submission to permanent status in 8-10 months -- see the current spreadsheet -- whereas inland applications are taking over two full years for processing.

Unless the extra 4-6 months of work is extremely important (since the work permit itself takes a not insignificant time to process), then an outland application is generally advisable.
