Sao Paulo BRA VO - 2016/17 Timeline

Hi everyone!
I was asked to submit my Canadian background check and pay the $490 fee. I am in Niagara. The fingerprints company is sending my results to Mississauga not Sao Paulo. Is it ok? I submitted the payment receipt via email. Is it okay?

Do you happen to know the reason why they would ask for a Canadian Background check? In my visa request package they only asked the Brazilian one, and that's what I translated and attached to all the other requested documents... Isn't that enough?

Great question JZ_SP. I'm sure T4m1 can reply on this and share their experience but I'll give my 2 cents.

When I was working on our package I read in some threads there were no consistency when VO would require a Canadian background checking (see # 14 on below link). In our case, since my partner lived in Canada +6 months in the past year prior to application, I assumed there was great chance SPVO would request in addition to Brazilian ones. We decided to be proactive and include it in our package so there would be no further delays during the review phase.

"However, if you have lived in Canada, at this time you are only required to indicate it on the Schedule 1 Background/Declaration Form (IMM 0008). You will be notified by the visa office dur-ing the processing of your application if you are required to submit a police certificate from Canada."

It could be that, and maybe many people are taking holidays this month too.

I'm trying to be patient. We've really just begun the waiting period, but I can't help but check mycic and ecas at least once a day! lol

We’ve committed to processing most (80 percent) of the applications we’ve already received as of December 7, 2016, by the end of December 2017. We process applications in the order we get them

My guess it's because I have lived in Canada for more than 2 years

And can I certify them in Cartórios here? The stamp is in Portuguese, isn't it? For now I just want to do my birth certificate for my marriage but then if it's easier to do all of these certifications and translations in Canada, I can do it during my time there.

I want everything to be perfect so that maybe they won't take too long... I want to be with him by the end of this year, living apart is making me crazy

Hi! I got an official translation only for my birth certificate and my Brazilian criminal check (cheapest official translator I found: ftadeubr@yahoo.com.br Fernando Thadeu - Toronto). I have seen people saying that that wasn't really necessary as my application was assessed in Sao Paulo. But anyways.. I did it. You will send them photocopies and translations, never originals. I did not need to translate my birth certificate to get married in Ontario. I just used my passport and Ontario drivers license.

Make sure you let them know that you depend on the marriage certificate to apply for your visa, otherwise it can take quite some time to get ready. In order to do so, you will just need to fax them a letter telling why you need it faster.

At first the process can be overwhelming but it get better once you're going through each phase
