No, alot of grocery stores are not opened all night. Here in the Toronto area there are some, closer to the city, but not sure about less urban areas. It probably also depends on the Provicial/City by laws. ;)
I am in a 'less-urban' area and lots are open 24/7 more than when I lived in TO. The only ones around here that aren't 24/7 are those in the Weston/Loblaws chain.

Jimmy Johns ae most delicious subs. I adjusted to no poutine fries in the States so I will adjust to no JJs in Cda. I'm moving back to Alberta. It has been a long time since I lived there but I don't think much is open all night. Pronto Pups are a special corn dog like no other corn dog and I can only get then in Grand Haven on Lake MI in the summer.

I did forget to add that Edmonton has an ikea and that is Nirvana to me since the nearest one is 3 hours away right now. I am also over the moon about gravy for my French fries!

I'm living with my husband in Bolivia, South America so when we both move, it will be a big change for both of us!! We have made our life here over the last years and I have definitely gotten used to the way things are here...but that doesn't mean i don't miss canada because i definitely do!!

Things I will miss when I move to Canada:
1. The freshed fruit & veg I've ever had
2. Slower pace of life
3. Walking everywhere
4. Endless sunshine and no rain for 8 months
5. Delicious Bolivian food - silpancho, pique, salchipapas, lappin...I could go on and on...but it's great!

Things I CAN'T WAIT for when we're back in Canada:
1. Tim Hortons
2. Swiss Chalet
3. Going to the cottage and all the related activities
4. Toronto weekend/evening activities...concerts, museums, sports, plays, symphony, opera...so much to do!
5. Not being stared at all the time as the only tall blonde girl (I'm just one more girl in Toronto...here I'm the "gringa")

As much as I'm looking forward to the move and the next stage of our lives, I will miss my adopted home too!

I am canadian and my husband is Indian. I have been to India several times and have stayed there a month or more each time. I loved the food, so amazing full of flavour and just so fresh. But I missed one thing while I was there. It was just a simple baked potatoe. Dont ask me why, cause I never eat it with sour cream or anything like that. Just a simple plain baked spud. So when my father inlaw heard that I woke up the next am to a baked potatoe for breakfast. It was delicious. I think my husband is going to miss a few things like the heat but he is so excited about seeing snow and christmas. But he is an excellent cook so not sure what he will miss the most other than fresher veggies and greater selection in India and speaking marathi.

Nah...you can get cheese curds at any of the dairies, and in the grocery store here. Don't scare newcomers with by threatening them with poutine! ;)
My guy is really French but moved to Canada 20+ years ago. He won't even let me TRY poutine! Here are a few things I miss. There are more but the food thing got me thinking; plus we have reservations at my favorite mussel shop here in Montreal in one hour.

Grits, grits, grits. Good fried chicken and mac n cheese though I really could make it our local family run chain called "Lizard's Thicket" really did the trick without the work. Mustard based BBQ sauce (SC style) and Firefly Sweet Tea vodka. My parents are bringing grits and BBQ sauce when they drive up to visit for the first time next week. The sweet tea vodka I have found in a liquor store on Niagara Falls Blvd.

I miss wearing flip flops in winter. I DON"T miss the heat and humidity of June, July and August in South Carolina, and try not to laugh out loud when folks hear complain about how hot it is. I now own a "summer coat" which is an oxymoron where I am from...we barely need coats in winter.

All for now, but I look forward to reading the rest of the posts in this thread. I stopped at the poutine!

Well I am already here and have been six months and the things I miss are minor and can live without, being from the UK, I miss chilled cabinets with things like scotch eggs and pork pies in, I miss certain types of chocolate, I miss a faster postal service, I miss faster speed limits (especially as journeys are usually longer here). However, if I was to list the things I don't miss, I would be here all day. ;D ;D ;D

I love it, love it, love it here.

Well my wife from Brazil i know she will have a hard time here for a bit, there we could go to the corner market buy all the fresh fruit and veg just after it has been picked in the morning, the fresh pineapple, passionfruit, mango, and all the fresh squeeze juices. The sun all day everyday.the beach just a walk away, shorts, sandals, and t's.
The couple things here i know she will love is no gates on your home and walls you cant see over covered in glass, being able to walk anywhere with out much of a worry, and the parks for the little guy.

Lol, I'm looking forward to some chocolates, my husband has me hooked on Aero bars :)
But I Will miss some I'm sure from home - I can't remember what kinds I saw when I was there visiting, I was just visiting, so I was looking for something different then. lol.

I know my MIL is originally from USA, born here. Married hubbys dad who was born in Canada and she immigrated there for him.
She LOVES and until recently missed greatly Nestle Crunch but they are now available there so she is in heaven.

The why are you immigrating thread made me start thinking about all the things I will miss about WI when we move. While our intended destination isn't far from the border, it will be different nonetheless.

So, what will you miss?

A few things off the top of my head- WI, USA vs Canada;
- Target (department store)
- buying liquor in the grocery store
- having space alongside my home (at least in the homes I've been viewing there isn't much, whereas homes in my town now are spaced further apart)

You? Add as you think of them.

lol @ the space alongside my home! i definitely will miss that and the huge yardssssssssssssssssssssssssss where im from

I asked my husband and his reply is that he will miss a little bit of the Nigerian food, but we should be able to cook it here alright. Oh, and since he lived in UK he knows that he will miss chicken that really tastes like chicken. I think we'll buy some free-range and see if that comes close. He thinks most chicken in UK is tasteless, and that's kinda true here too.

Really though, he is just going to miss his mum and dad. :(
