Hello everyone. My husband is Russian and currently living in U.S. Recently he requested police clearance from Russian agency in U.S. and he received it. But the letter was issued from Russian Consultate at San Francisco. We are wondering is police clearance supposed to be issued by consultate not from Russia? If somebody requested Russian police clearance please let me know how it looks like.

hello Ponchita,

first, I am not aware how Russian PCC for your husband should like and what is the requirement for overseas submissions. it could well be the case that PCCs are issued by its authorized bodies like Russian consulate.

I was getting Russian PCC from Russia, and it was issued by the main information center of the internal affairs (police information center, in short). you can contact the Russian consulate and ask why they issued PCC themselves, and not from the Russian police directly. attach their answer to your filing and that should suffice.

I am not sure if your husband can obtain PCC in Russia without physically being present at the police center, an alternative is a power of attorney. I suggest you dig the consulate path.

regards,

Ponchita, police clearance from Russian Consulate is acceptable too. I am positive.

If you check the URL kindly provided by PPM:
People living outside Russia should apply to the Consular section of the nearest Embassy of Russia in the country of residence. Foreigners living outside Russia can also apply to the Main Information and Analytical Centre.

Thank you everybody for responding. I understand Russian consultate in U.S. issue police clearance. But my point is the police clearance which my hubands received is written by Russian consultate and the statement said there's no criminal record according to Russian police record.... I assume consultate just received police clerance from Russia and give the applicant. I mean I thought police clearance was written by Russian police. So if somebody currently living in U.S and requested police clearance US through Russian consultate or agency, I want to know police clearance was written by consultate or Russian police directly?

Hi,

I have not requested the Russian PCC from the US, but got it from Russia. As other posters say, it is ok to receive PCC from the Russian consulate, it appears to be authorized to issue PCCs based on information from the Russian police (info from the latter comes in Russian, hence consulate issuing its English version).

Please don't be surprised with wording of 'no criminal record', this is standard.

Dear ponchita, the one you got form the Consulate is as good as the one you would get in Russian.
