For everyones information - I crossed border today at Sarnia to work in Troy area and didnt face any extra questions, super smooth. I usually travel to Troy once in a month for few days on H1B and Live in Oakville. Todays travel was after being absent from US for 4 months (COVID)
Thanks for the update. We see what happens tomorrow.

Just curious but if the EO restricts existing visa holders for 6 months ....how do you plan on doing it? Stay on US side, lose days here in Canada and pay rent both sides?
Stay on Canadian side, no way I am going to delay my Canadian passport. My works allows me full time remote, I come to US to keep h1b active ( not sure if I need to ), I won't think twice about taking up a role in Canada if things get complicated.

the only time you might need to be physically in US is while filing extension. you should be present in US on the day of filing extension. otherwise your petition (i797b) would get approved in consular mode. only headache with getting a petition in consular mode is that your company won't be able to extend their i9 up to extension date until you get a new stamp, enter US and give them your new i94. if this happens and if consulates are closed, it might affect your employment. if you get i797a aka a petition with i94 attached to the bottom, they would directly be able to extend your i9. so just be cognizant of this alone.

This is really great advice, I am due for extension in 2022 and wont mind coming here for a month get the extension done and head back.

Looks like it's been signed. But conflicting reports say, it hasn't but will be shortly.

Hopefully it doesn't affect existing visas.

It is almost given that it would impact issuance of new visas.. which means people with existing unexpired visas should be good. If they’re sparing existing visas, AVR should also sail through.. people are unable to get stamping anyways because of consulate closure.. so this EO technically means nothing for people who are exclusively in US and Canada

It means in my case I have Canadian pr and expired h1b visa on my passport but valid I-797 till August 2022 , can I go for landing now and come back on AVR?

I have a H1-B visa stamped from my previous employer which ends on Nov'2020 and I have approved i797 from new employer until 2022. Do you think I should be good to travel and come back ?

you should be able to , but just give it few more days and everything will be clear. However best is to call the CBP border post that you are planning to cross before leaving US and ask them if you can use AVR to enter back.
