RP expired

Hi all,
I'm still waiting for a response from the CIC for the grant of citizenship, but My RP card has expired since Oct, 2012. I'm not going to travel abroad in the near future, so I'm wondering if it is necessary to renew the card? Does the CIC require a valid RP card for the test/interview/ceremony?

I would say do get it renewed and have your new card in hand - just in case you need to travel urgently or even to leave and take a quick vacation or visit home. Doesnt hurt to have the new one in hand for a rainy day.
