We are November 2013, in family sponsorship class, Roma office.

Wondering as this process looks long, if a visitor visa is a good option,
But am concerned as we have been denied once, when were not married yet.
We are in a need for advice, can someone help

Does Roma office processing time takes a lot?
Until now we know our papers are there-the application status is "in process" ?
What is the next step, do they contact you, or what?
What should we do?

What is your timeline?

Rome is processing visa exempt countries applicants very very fast lately. I administer an FB group for Greek-Canadians returning back to Canada. Many of our members in the group get their visas from Rome in less than 6 months now. (recent example two of my friends who applied in August 2013 have already got their spouse's visas last week. Many before took their visas also in the same times.

Hi there friend

If your wife lived only in Albania and has not worked or lived in other countries then it will be a piece of cake. Like a walk in the park as long as your marriage is not so recent.
Your files are in Rome since December with any luck you should be done by June the latest.

I realize I'm a bit behind but it took me and my husband from October 17th of 2013 till today the 18th of March 2014 so approximately 5 months to get the process finalized. He actually received the visa today and will be coming this Friday!! I'd say this embassy is relatively fast at processing applications.

Wow that is amazing!!! I applied in February and would live nothing more than to have my husband home with me by Fall! I really hope your spouse enjoys Canada!

Thank you!! I hope he likes Canada too haha And dont lose hope, maybe he will be here by fall!!

And my husband is Albanian hence why we went through Rome! I was pretty anxious initially, had heard horror stories about this embassy delaying decisions and etc from people both close to me and in the community, but evidently as long as everything is done right and you're truthful, the embassy is democratic and good to you!

I realize Tom already replied but I just wanted to give you a heads up that the visitor visa is a useless endeavor. We tried with the visitor visa while we were going though sponsorship and despite being honest with immigration they denied it on the basis that "we are not convinced you will leave the country if the sponsorship does not go through." Rome is relatively fast at processing anyway so don't worry too much.

Ya I was not going to waste my money to try that again. I will be in Albania for 2 weeks in April and haven't decided when my next trip will be. I hope that I can book the trip and then take him home with me instead of going again in 2014 to pick him up. We'll see!

He will be landing this Friday the 21st and its his first trip on 1) an airplane 2) outside Albanian/Greece/Italy so I'm just psyching myself up to welcome him! Albania is so beautiful during that time you're going to love it oh my goodness!!! Make sure to visit the beaches and all the old historical/museum-y sites no trip to Albania is complete without that!!!!

Yes it will be my first time in Albania! My husband lives in Italy so I have been visiting him there! But now he is with his family in Vlore so I cannot wait to see everything!

As for my next trip, it all depends on the Rome office and what they say...

Because my husband has never been on a plane, I want to pick him up and bring him over. Also, he doesn't speak very good english so I don't want him to have any problems!

Vlore is beautiful. Actually both me and my husband are from a town really close to Vlore called Fier! My husband also has family in Vlore we visit quite a lot when we're there! If you end up being there in the supper you'll love it, the beaches are so great!!

I've actually known my husband for ages since we were kids because I was born and spent the first 10 years of my life in Albania before my parents immigrated to Canada. Since then I've visited every single summer there, and thats how we kindled a romance! I even got married in Albania because thats where both mine and his families are!

I had the same fear with the lack of english speaking so my husband booked a ticket through Alitalia since he speaks Italian relatively well and when he gets to Pearson I will be there waiting for him in case of any problems. But I know what you mean, its really difficult not to get anxious when its their first trip by airplane ever!

That's amazing story ! I don't speak much Albanian. It's a difficult language but I learned Italian so we speak that together! I've known my husband for just over 1.5 years now so I hope they believe that our relationship is genuine congrats again! Let me know how landing goes

Don't worry about it at all. I was involved romantically with my husband for just about a year and 4 months! Albanian is not that bad, but i speak 3 additional language so I may be a wee bit biased haha.
