Hi everyone,

I was wondering if any of the experts or people who have been through the same thing could help me with this one.

I am a Canadian living in Brazil with my husband whom I am sponsoring. We were planning on staying in Brazil until he received his permanent residence, but now with the economic crisis in Brazil my husband has been without work for a while.

He has a visitor visa to Canada that is valid until 2019 I believe, and so I was thinking about the possibility of us going back to Canada before the process is over on the premise that he is 'visiting' me in Canada until he receives his COPR. Is this a possibility for us? Have any of you been through a similar situation? Would he be able to land at a CIC office? I don't want us to be separated as we have never lived apart, and if we return to Canada I would be able to find work for myself relatively easily (I am also anxious to return as I've been in Brazil for a while now!)

Any advice is much appreciated.

He can certainly try, but he should be prepared to show that he is aware of what `Dual Intent' is and have proof that he will abide by what it means.

If you receive sponsor approval before you leave, it may help him at the border.

He should still have [some] ties back `home', and, if questioned, be able to convince the officer that if his PR is denied, he will return to Brazil.

If he is successful and his PR is approved, he could either make an appointment at the local CIC office, or [better yet] drive to the nearest land border to `flagpole' to land (unless driving to the border is not an option).

Thanks so much for your help. He has a business in his name here (that his mom took over the first time he went to canada) and accounts, bills, etc in his name here. I have already received sponsor approval and he's gotten AOR2 already. I'm hoping this will help a bit?

Yes, it should. He should bring proof of these ties to Brazil, proof of his sponsorship, and a return ticket. People are often let in as visitors while the PR application is being processed.

Just another question related to this-- would it hurt to send an email to the VO explaining that my husband is coming with me to Canada for a visit/might still be there once COPR comes?
