Hi there,

I wanted to ask that we (me and my husband) landed as immigrants in Canada, Toronto in July 2010 but came back to Saudi Arabia after recieving our PR cards because of our jobs and now I'm going back to settle down there finally but my husband will come back after a month.
I heard from some people that they ask lots of questions at immigration and might not allow you to enter canada if u stayed out for more than 6 months or so??? and it has been an year since we came to Saudi.
Kindly advise is it true? as i'm really worried now, have even sent my home stuff cargo and resigned from my job?
If yes, what should i do?

Thanks alot, i really appreciate how u are answering queries here.

The 6 month rule was retired in 2002 or 2003. What replaced it is a 2 in 5 year rule which is how long you must stay in Canada to keep your PR. Therefore it is ok to be outside for up to 3 years in a 5 year period.

If i will be returning to canada (with PR Card), will I still go to the immigration counters in the airport? will they still check the required POF?

You have already landed so you just go through, show your passport and PR card like any other passenger. They only ask for POF when you land and then never again.

hello leon,
a) if i take the worst case scenario that i stayed oustide canada (after the first landing ) 3 years , then i come back to canada to setlle for 2 full years ( without going out even one day) , will they accept to renew my PR card?

b) if my PR card expires on 15/09/2012 ( for example ) when should i send it for renewal ?

c)if my PR card expires on 15/09/2012 and i send it for renewal on 15/07/2012 , from which date they will start counting the number of days i ve been in canada ? ( from the application date? or date of reception on the application ? )

a) as long as you accumulate 730 days, the will accept your application to renew the PR card
b) PR card expiry date has nothing to do and you should send it for renewal after you accumulate the 730 days
c) this would help you to count the days: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/how-to-count-days-i-traveled-outside-canada-t82552.0.html
