Restoration Status

Hi All,

I am just trying to get some information for a friend.

He's an international student that completed his program in june 2016. His study permit expired on July 01, 2016, and he was planning to apply for post graduate work permit PGWP. His school did not provide the documents he needed to apply for the PGWP until July 4, 2016.

He submitted his application for PGWP, but decided to call CIC to ask if he could continue working now that his study permit was expired, and they said that he needed to stop working and apply for restoration of status.

The application of restoration of status seems to be like you are applying again for study permit, because it asks for admission letter, financial support etc, but hes no longer in school.

Has anyone had any experience similar to this?

He should withdraw his PGWP application - it's going to be refused. Hopefully he has also stopped working as instructed by the CIC help desk (if not, he needs to stop working immediately since he's working illegally).

He needs to have a valid study permit in order to qualify to apply for a PGWP. He is also out of status in Canada. He needs to apply for three things together and pay the fees for all three: (1) restore his status in Canada; (2) apply to extend his study permit; (3) apply for a PGWP.

Thanks for the feedback,

how does he extend his study permit if he has already completed his program? I saw that part of the requirements for extending the study permit are: admission letter, financial support, etc...pretty much as if he was applying for the study permit the first time.

Also, the application to restore his status is tied to the study permit one, So that means he will apply for that first, if its successful, then he can apply for the PGWP?

thanks.

Scylla answer is the best answer. It will resolve jaskaran and amusa problems.

  • $200 for visitors;
  • $350 for applicants who also require a study permit ($200 for the Restoration of temporary resident status processing fee and $150 for the study permit); and
  • $355 for applicants who also require a work permit ($200 for the Restoration of temporary resident status processing fee and $155 for the work permit).
