Jan 2018 – I got my permanent residency in 2018 (Landing date – 20 Jan 2018). I stayed there for 2 weeks and returned to India. I was at quite a good salary in big US based tech company, and I was still thinking if I want to move or not

Nov 2019 – Feb 2020 – I went again to Canada for 1.5 months looked for a job an even got one, but salary was lower than expected, however, I thought I will get around to stay longer. I went to India, however, COVID-19 struck and my employer in India without even knowing I will resign, gave me promotion and hike. Salary increased further by almost 60% of what I was getting 2018.

I thought I’ll go in Jan 2021 seeing whole situation of COVID-19 in Europe, US/Canada, I thought my salary is good in India and I’ll stay here given my parents who were 69 and 71 years old. I am the only kid who stays with them in India, my sister lives in the UK and my elder brother lives in the US. Please note Canada banned flights March 2020 – July 2020. It opened in Sep 2020 – April 2021 where it again banned the flights (ban is still in place till Sep 2021)

Feb – Mar 2021 – My mother and father got minor surgeries in eyes and planned to get major surgery in April 2021. My parents got first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in March end

April 2021 – I got moderate COVID-19; my mother/father got very mild COVID-19. I showed moderate symptoms and my mother showed very mild fever with father showing very mild throat infection. I got high fever 104.5 and CT Scan showed moderate score.

May – July 2021 – Whole Chennai was in mess, and I started to rethink if money if everything, my anxiety post COVID-19 was so high which increased my blood pressure (150-160/90-110) and god I get mild-to-moderate anxiety and moderate headaches even now (once every 8-12 days) which my doctor thinks mostly due to moderate anxiety. In June and July – I used to go to my Family Physician 2-3 times a week. I got my first dose in first week of July. I became hypochondriac (even smallest symptom seems like to me I may die or something). I feel this stress that I have to stay in India because of my parents (now 71 and 73 years old). I am cursing myself everyday and more I curse, more I feel I should be away from environment even at lower salary, but, in Canada.

August 2021 – I got good offer from Canadian firm whom I have told I’ll join in Oct end (I am currently in 3 months’ Notice period) and they are currently doing background check on me and they have confirmed my start date to Nov 4.

Here is the dilemma now – Leaving ageing parents. I’ll get another cataract surgery for my mum in end of August 2021. They get anxious and emotional even when I start to talk that I want to go outside. My mental health is declining every day. I used to travel a lot to EU/US and now I feel I am stuck here...I feel I have stress as I am caregiver to elderly parents.

Another pressure is to marry, I am 34-year-old single guy and my mum thinks that my life is waste without marriage. This may be cause of my anxiety in addition to Caregiver stress. My siblings are married, have kids and I just want to leave India so that this pressure could be eased out. I stayed in on and off relationships since 2014, I feel I am feeling lonely which I think Canada may able to ease out. I am done with arrange marriage meetings.

Lastly, I feel what all questions I have to go through at PoE by Canada Immigration given I’ll short of RO by close to 7-8 months. This is another thing giving me anxiety. I have searched enough, I think I can show them I’ll stay but having doubts given leaving parents, high paying job to join medium job in Canada. I believe if I stay here my mental health will go to another low...

Guys, please help me out here.....What could I do....I really want to come to Canada

Honestly what is your question? You have a job so come to Canada. Flights from India have never been banned so that is not an issue. Direct flights, yes but many people have travelled through a 3rd country like Mexico. If you meet RO, you will be let into the country.

Think the issue is he’ll be short on his RO when he arrives. Unfortunately nobody can guarantee that you won’t have issues when arriving in Canada. If you are able to enter Canada with no issues or a warning about your RO you should plan on remaining in Canada until you are compliant again.

Seems fine to me Mohit, you should be able to enter Canada. CBSA may choose to report you but they cannot refuse you admission. In most cases, IRCC may see notes while extending your PR and choose not to extend or contest or place a removal order, however, as mentioned by canuck - once you enter you should not interact with IRCC at all before you are back in compliance.

I believe you should choose your mental health, given the environment you are living in is very stressful....

If you are back in compliance when youapply for a new PR card they can’t can’t choose not to grant you a new PR card. They definitely can’t put in place a removal order if you weren’t reported and you renew your PR card when you are back in compliance with the 730 days out of 5 years.

I didn't know this thanks for correcting me, but I believe it will be difficult to go unreported until he is coming through the land border via the US

Question is on RO and I have too much anxiety already, going via a third country will be another anxiety for me until the US

I just want to check if there are experiences of coming to Toronto Airport and going unreported. I have read 2-3 om this forum, but want to check or more

Do you think via US could be a good option? Are there are any experiences? I have B1/B2 visa since 2016 (valid till 2026) and even an unactivated H1B visa (my current company got me to transfer to the US, however, COVID-19 came and now there are no plans to give me a transfer to the US). I can use B1/B2 though from Sep 9 where direct flights for B1/B2 will be allowed...

Honestly, no matter how much reassurance you are going to get reading through these forums and experiences can resolve your anxiety. It is all dependent on the officer at the end of the day and there is no guarantee that you could be reported or otherwise.

At this point, its all about whether you are willing to take that risk to keep your PR. The longer you delay the more the problems you will be creating for yourself. There seems to be a general leniency these days, but then again, like I said before, Nobody can say for sure and if you are waiting to hear from somebody what you want to hear (i.e, "XX border is safe at YY time, they wont bother reporting"), you are never going to get that reassurance.

The only thing that you can be assured of is that as long as you are at the border you will be allowed in, irrespective of you being reported or not.

However if reported, what is the risk that I'll be able to make a successful appeal on basis of the circumstances mentioned above is another thing...

Right now the only thing which keeps me on is my job/career growth, otherwise, there is practically nothing

Does Being Reported mean I lose my right to work? or if the Appeal is unsuccessful, removal order means I won't able to go abroad ever even after returning to India? Would I have to declare everywhere say I get US Visa that I was asked to leave Canada which could be negative for my career

I believe travel through the US is a good option. In 2020, my friend who has been out for like 4 years came via US. Usually, it's no questions asked if you have a valid PR Card. Seniors could comment here as I know only 2 people who came from US to Canada and were not meeting RO, but again, you can't be assured here

Yes you’ll be able to enter Canada and work. If your appeal is denied you’ll need to leave Canada. If you leave before it becomes a removal order then you won’t need to declare that you were deported.

Hello Saudamini,

I am currently in US with the same situation. If you don't mind, is there any way you can connect me to people who were able to go from US. It will be really helpful, if I can discuss their experience at border.

Appreciate your help !!

My experience was sh*t as we had an agent literally trying to goat my husband into an argument- hubby had nerves of steel. We got through unscathed. I had to cross again since without PR card, for work, while renewal was in process. Better agent this time (more humane and civil). I had all documents with me showing history in Canada and reason for travel etc.

Our renewal was approved - need to pick up cards in person.

So if I am reported and then I choose to come back to my country that wouldn't be considered Deported / Removal Order Placed?

Say I appeal and my appeal is unsuccessful, how many days do I get before an unsuccessful appeal becomes a Removal Order?

If there is any IRCC link to support this - I'll be highly grateful as I do not want to have any doubts....

Could you get me in touch with them...All I know is that these days people going from the US to Canada are being asked more questions than from India to Canada. My H1B acquaintance was not reported but went through a detailed secondary review (although he was short by couple of months - very recent experience)
