Hi All,

Just wanted to share my story on my long road to residency and say thanks to everyone who helped with advice along the way.

Arrived in Canada June 2013 on 1 year IEC visa.
Second 2 year IEC visa June 2014.
October 2014 applied for residency (common-law) under the last year of the paper system under CEC. There was approx. 4000 out of 8000 spaces left when we applied accoring to CIC website. Received letter in January 2015 to say we missed the quota. They got our application on a Monday and the quota was filled the previous Friday. CIC never updated the quota on there website and because of this we wasted our time applying!
February 2015 moved companies.
March 2015 my new companies immigration lawyer calculated my EE points at 340. Said I would need ONIP to get residency. At the time he said ONIP was not set up for EE yet so we would do paper application through Sydney. :(
January 2016 a colleague of mine came back from same lawyer saying he had 480 points. This didn't make sense as I am more qualified with more Canadian experience under same NOC. Turns out I had 526 points! The lawyer messed up my calculation. So we applied for EE in February 2016 and recived AOR. Also received ONIP nomination in February 2016 but did not need it and it wasnt for EE anyway.
April 2016 lawyer sent us to the border to activate new 1 year work permit that ONIP entitles us to, he said would be quikcer than doing BOWP online. Turns out CBSA cannot issue these work permits anymore and would have to be done online anyway. So we just did the BOWP based on our AOR.
May 2016 received BOWP.
August 2016 received CoPR.
September 2016 landed
September 2016 I got my PR card (approx. 3 weeks after landing)
October 2016 CIC requested new pictures for spouse.
November 2016 spouse PR card received.

And there goes my story, there was a lot of stress along the way but thankfully we made it. :) I hope Trudeau brings back in the credit for time spend it Canada as a TFW that we can use towards citizinship as we were here working full time for 3 years before we got residency!

Best of luck to all still on the road to PR.

Thanks,

DJ

(PS - be wary of the lawyers, my company forced this guy upon me, would of been better doing it alone!)

Another "immigration lawyer" who has no clue in "immigration things"... Guess he is making good money from your company. Isn't that unfair

Yes everything he said was wrong for us. I believe he was good with the old school system but didn't catch up in time for EE. He had long successful history with my company getting people residency.

He is an expert again now though, I was effectively his guinea pig!!

Next time you are in Canada go to Halifax NS and specifically go to Alexandria's Pizza on Queen's street. Order the Donair Poutine. Try that and tell me I haven't lived.

BTW you can thank me in advance. :p
