While filling my residence calculator( Form CIT 0407) Page 2, I am getting all confused. My calculations tell me I am eligible on April 20 ,2015 .Please bear with me on the dates and advice.

A. Enter the date you became permanent resident JAN 8 2010
However I landed on this date and immediately left for US .
Out of country for 629 days

Re entered on 23 OCT 2011 to stay for good

B Enter the date you will sign your application on line B April 25 2015

C Total number of days between when you became a PR and you will sign the application.
If this number is more than 1460 then enter 1460 in line C ....what does this mean ?I have lived for 1932 days should I not write that ?

Should I consider 23 oct 2011( entered Canada for good ) or JAN 8 2010( I left immediately on that day)

If I calculate from 23 OCT 2011 ----April 25 2015 Total days in Canada 3 yrs 183 days =1278
...I have been out of country for 180 days in this period too ........ so it is 1278 -180= 1098 Inside Canada

If I consider JAN 8 2010 it is 5 yrs 107 days = 1932

D If you were outside Canada between Line A and B enter it in the box ......629 +180 = 809

E Substract C - D 1278 - 809 = 469 (.......taking start date inside canada 23 oct 2011
1932 - 809 =1123(........taking start date when I first landed and left

My Question is should I consider 23 Oct 2011 as my date since when I started living or Jan8 2010 when I landed and left ?
In section C why should I write 1460 ...when I stayed for 1932 days

I also got my PR card renewed 2 weeks back
Please help me in filling out this residence calculator.

Thanks for reading through this.

Your residence calculation should start from 4 years prior to the date you will be signing the citizenship application. If you are planning to sign and send the CIT application on Apr 25, 2015, you need to start the calculation from April 25, 2011.

Mention April 25, 2011 to Oct 23, 2011 as absent and list out of all absences from Oct 23, 2011.

Best way to do is use the Online Residence Calculator in CIC website (Search for Online Residence Calculator in CIC website) and fill out your details. It will automatically calculated your eligibility.

Good Luck!

Isn't the CIC online tool better than hand calculation? It solves all the math, calendar, and other special/strange rules for you, without error.

If you really insist on doing this by hand and take the risk of getting delayed for months and months due to calculation error:

"If this number is more than 1460", then, they don't care how many, and require you to write down 1460, so they don't have to think about "is 1932 a bigger or smaller number than 1460?" They're that lazy.

Line C is for the "permanent resident status" day count, not physical presence.

Line D, however, is for physical presence.

Really, try the online tool. Google "canada citizenship application calculator", open the first non-ad result. There's a "Start Calculation" button down the bottom of that page.
