Sometimes in April 2011 I got an offer of employment from Delta Chelsea hotel in Toronto Canada through an individual who claim to be representing an employment agency in my country, Nigeria. Since then I have paid amount totalling eight hundred US dollar (equivalent to 120,000 naira) for services called 'visa processing' and 'citizenship and immigration' fees. A document called 'visa authorisation certificate' which was 'signed' by Barrister David Cohen (canadian Immigration Lawyer) was sent to me a few weeks after I made the last payment.

I have beeen trying to verify the genuineness of the scheme without any convincing result. I sent an e-mail to Chelsea Delta hotel through their employment fraud alert email address since April 2011 with no response up till the present. My attempt to call the phone number given on the letterhead of the letter of employment issued to me was not fruiful as it was either not going through or diverted to an answerng machine even when the calls were made at about 2 pm Toronto time. The city code of the telephone line on the letterheaded appointment letter is that of Montreal while that for Fax machine is for Toronto. This appears suspicious and I am a little confused.

In the light of this I wish you to assist in establishing the genuiness of this 'employment' scheme as well as that of the 'visa authorisation certificate' I refer to above before I commit more fund to this scheme. Right now, I am being asked to pay US$1000 which is claumed to be a requirement for issuance of Canadian visa by the Canadian embassy and that this amount would be returned to me on landing in Canada.

Thanks and God bless

You are definitely scammed my brother. Forget about the job and all the money you have paid.

And about the signed letter, its fake. Go to the Canadian consulate and ask for the genuineness of the letter and you will come to know the whole story.

I'm sorry. This is clearly a scam. It looks like someone is using the name of both the Delta Chelsea and David Cohen to con people out of money.

There is no requirement by the Canadian embassy to pay $1000 for visa issuance which is then refunded upon landing. No Toronto hotel (or any Canadian hotel for that matter) hires through employment agencies in foreign countries that charge money in exchange for work permits. Addresses and phone numbers that don't make sense are also another strong indicator of a scam.

Sorry for the money you have lost. But again, there's no question this is a scam.
