Renewal of PR Card Delays

No updates yet... This is getting ridiculous. I was still hoping to receive my renewed PR card before I travel. Countdown is 7 business days to go before I have to travel.

I submitted my "urgent" application on September 28.. 70 calendar days ago :(

very odd because I seem to think CIC has a track record of being efficient /speedy on Urgent Processing cases - if everything is in place and the application is well prepared and put together. Maybe you should work back and retrace your steps and ask what could have triggered an investigation ?

Did you keep a full photocopy of everything you sent ? I am still very surprised that they have dragged it this long.

Yes I sent them everything they asked for and more. I did call the call center an hour ago and they advised that since they are investigating my residency obligations, I should not expect my PR to be renewed before SIX months.

Call center also said not to worry about getting temp travel documents from a Canadian Visa office, I will just have to take that risk unfortunately.

I have a citizenship application in process since May 2011 and I asked how renewing the PR card will affect my citizenship application. Strangely enough he advised that residency obligation is not being investigated for my Citizenship application.

This is all very strange to me..

How VERY odd... I am surprised...

But, maybe it helps you to think back real carefully and see if/where they picked up on something that got them going ? Did you get no of days wrong? missing stamps? , other ? (which of course is your business and you need not share here).

Is it something routine that was missed or something out of the ordinary they noticed so that they decided to really apply the brakes and not 'urgent process'. All quite mysterious.

Wonder if you can ask for whatever those notes are ....CAIPS or whatever through ATIP to see what 'notes' have been made...

Good Luck !

Just a thought ... Can't you marry in Canada?

I have heard that marriage performed and registered in Canada does have its benefits. At least at the end the day, a will might not be necessary!

us2yow.. I agree this is very strange. There is no reason for CIC to doubt my residency obligation. I was in school full time and then worked full time. All this time can be accounted for via official documents. I was unemployed for 6 months but I have sufficient credit card expenditure to prove I was in Canada at the time.

Steaky.. haha if my fiance read this you would feel her wrath. I'm afraid changing wedding venues 3 weeks before the wedding date is not an option.

Thanks everyone for the support, always good to share..

My guess is your application may have been chosen as part of "quality assurance" to ensure program integrity or may be you come from a part of the world where CIC has noted high rates of residency fraud and thus are going through your application thoroughly. Unfortunately, until that is sorted, the citizenship application can not proceed.

Hi guys so just as an update, I have heard nothing yet from CIC regarding the renewal of my PR card. I will be travelling tomorrow and will be knocking on the embassy's door the following day for an application for temporary travel documents. My application consists of the following:

1. Filled application form
2. Printed checklist
3. Payment
4. 2 Photos
5. Evidence in the form of: Credit Card statements from the past five years, letters from all previous landlords confirming my residency in their respective properties, letter from my employer confirming my employment, documents from my university confirming my attendance, Alberta Health doctor visit records.

Thank you all for your continued support on this forum. I hope to be able to write you back in the new year confirming that travel documents have been issued and that I can travel back to Canada with my wife.

Good luck to all of you and best wishes for the upcoming holiday season.

Have a safe journey and congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. Hey maybe bring back some wedding cake eh!!

I would suggest you carry notices of tax assessments covering the last 5 years if you can (you had this on a previous post as part of the document you had collected). Do you have a back up plan if the TD is delayed? Check the US consulate site in your country of destination..if its also your home country you may apply for a US visa which would enable you to enter Canada via a land crossing.

Did you ever submit the documents to the local CIC office?

Good luck

Thanks Msafiri. Yes I forgot to mention tax assessments. And I did send all those documents to the local CIC as well. No response.

No back-up plan. Probably first time I don't care to have one. I feel like I have been very committed to Canada and have not attempted to fool anyone, my papers are all accurate and I have sufficient back-up.

Sadly I do believe that since I am from Syria and my country is experiencing a civil war I am being profiled. Nothing more I can do. It will take a while but I am confident that I have completed all necessary requirements to be granted a renewed pr card and citizenship.

Patience is the way to go at this stage.

Thanks again to everyone.
