1) I just cant disgust the fact that , this IELTS is becoming so dependent on my life plans.
2 ) I cant come to terms with my speaking score.
3) Is reading and speaking worth a revaluation ?

I feel somewhere at the start of the thread it should be mentioned that this particular thread is not recommending eor in any way.
I say so because I found this page when I was unhappy with the score I got. Somehow after reading everyone’s success with remark I was tempted to apply for a remark as well. I wouldn’t say that this discussion is entirely responsible for my decision because it was a choice I made. However, having said that I feel it did influence my subconscious mind.

Totally agree! Just gives false hope and ultimately suffering later.
It hardly has any positive cases. It’s always better to keep on trying rather than applying for EOR. Wastage of time and money and wrong expectation that we build because of this.
Guys, I have recently received my IELTS results which frankly shocked me.
Listening: 8.5, Reading: 9, Writing: 6!!, Speaking 8.
I am pretty confident of my writing abilities, as a matter of fact, I thought I'd score 8 or above, and I have no idea what happened there. I applied for a remark, from your experience, did it ever happen that a score was increased 2 bands? To me it seems almost impossible, although frankly, whenever I practiced and got my writing graded, it was 8 and above. I have no idea what was the issue in the exam to get such a poor score.

Completely understand what you’re going through. For reference, my score is LRSW: 8.5,9,8,6.5 (overall 8) but as for many people, including yourself, Writing has been my nemesis in the IELTS
I’ve already applied for a re-mark - I went to my centre first thing in the morning, filled up an EOR form and submitted the original result form (held with the test centre itself at that point in time). The fees is steep, half the charges for retaking the test (which I also plan to do in April) but well worth it if you’re confident your score is ill deserved. You do get a refund if they revise the score upward, so it’s more a question of what your own assessment of your performance is, and how confident you are that the Writing section was well attempted and executed. I’d encourage you to apply for a re-mark with a 2 band increase in mind; however, most of the opinions and experiences I have read here and on other forums indicate a higher likelihood of a 0.5 or one band increase. Of course, Writing IS a subjective section, so the band increase of 2 that you are targeting is not entirely out of the bounds of possibility. Keep this thread updated with the latest developments, time taken and results of the re-mark, to give others like me hope Good luck to you too. Hoping to hear a success story. I'm sorry to hear the Writing score is standing in the way of your plans too! Completely agreed that it sucks to give all 4 sections all over again for want of a 0.5 increment in writing
I have applied today through my local centre (British Council, Mauritius), but they informed me the request would only go out on Monday and can take upto 12 weeks. I understand the time taken since it goes to an international examiner, but am keeping my fingers crossed that the time, effort and money are well spent.

I was reading that EoR has something like a 10% success rate. This remarking thing is more of a prayer.

Fingers crossed! Of course, the 10% success rate in EoR shouldn’t be taken as a reason to either apply, or not to apply for a revaluation, and the motivation to go in for a re-mark should depend on our individual circumstances. In my case, as I’m sure in yours too, I am confident I did well in the Writing Section on the day of the exam, and not just in mocks or timed tasks before sitting for the IELTS. Also, while the hope of an at least 0.5 increment is a major motivation in applying for an EoR, I was positive after sitting for the exam that I would score at least a 7.5 in Writing, on a bad day. Applying for a revaluation helps me cope with the sense of dissonance and a shot at bridging the current gap between my actual score and my preceding expectations, by taking positive action
Speaking of positive action, I’m also planning to retake the test on 21st April. I’ll practice loads of writing tasks before the date and try to target a 9 ( so I at least land up with a 7.5 on a bad day!). I’d recommend you apply in parallel for a retest too, since you get to choose which scores you finally use - the old ones (with hopefully an upward revision after a re-mark) or the new ones (which just might be better across!). Given we have the same scores, I know it is hard to go in for a retest after giving a good first attempt, and getting an overall band of 8 - but it also improves our likelihood of repeating a good performance in a second test, provided we practice writing some more and bursh up on the other sections so we aren’t completely out of touch. Tough luck on the Speaking score, and given your past results, a revaluation stands a high chance to help raise your marks.
To answer your queries:
I) No, your score can either go up or stay unchanged. There is no chance of a decreased score.
II) You can collect your TFR from the centre while applying for the revaluation with the EoR form and paying the fees at the counter. It’s faster to do it that way, and you get only 6 weeks to apply for a remark, and it takes between 2 to 6 weeks for the results to arrive, so I’d recommend you act fast.
III) Since you gave your exam through IDP, it’s a much faster process. You can get the results in as little as 2 weeks, or a maximum of 6 weeks. Note you cannot use the old TRF since it is being contested and this might delay the EE application process for you. If you’re in a hurry, you can parallely apply for a retest, get new scores at the same time (or even before) as the re-mark result and decide which scores to use finally for your EE application.
