Usually the purpose of voulantarily revoking your PR a status is so that you can apply for another type of visa or enter Canada under a new status. If you know that you will not meet the RO and would like to apply for a new status, then it makes more sense to voulantarily revoke your status, which will be much faster than the government going through due process to revoke your status.
Either way, the outcome is the same. You are not breaking a law or otherwise negatively impacting your immigration record by having the government jump through the legal hoops that are required to remove your status.
