Regarding Freelancing As an International Student

Hi

Can we work as a freelancer on fiverr as an international student in Canada?

1.I have been working as a freelancer on fiverr for the past 2 years and wanted to confirm if can still work to support myself financially if a enroll as a full-time student in Canada. Do i need permission from my University or The Canadian Government?

2. Will i have to adhere to 20 Hours Limit as a freelancer?

3. all of my earnings are transferred to my father's account in my Home Country. If he sends me my earnings through his bank account to my Canadian bank account, will i have to pay taxes on it?


I am really confused regarding this as i searched online and found mixed answers. If Someone can help me out i would really appreciate it. Thank You

You don't need explicit permission from anyone.

I think you should be fine working full time as long as you don't take any Canadian clients. If you take on Canadian clients (or clients with a physical presence in Canada), then you should adhere to the 20-hour rule.

Yes, you will have to pay taxes on it in any case (freelancing is self-employment and regardless of whose bank accounts you transfer the money to, you are the one performing the activity). Fiverr pays to Canada, why bother transferring your earnings to another country and then to Canada? That will decrease your earnings with unnecessary transfer fees. Just change your country on Fiverr to Canada once you get your SIN number. Profiles with western flags get more orders anyway.
