Dear All :),

I have some questions hope anyone can help me out.

My first piece 4 months work experience as a secretary, 35 hrs a week, $18,000 per year as stated in the contract, no other benifits stated. Does the salary too low to meet the CEC requirement? How can I draft this letter better? The employer agree to raise the salary after 6 months verbally, should I address this in the letter to make it look shinner?

I work there from March 2011-July 2011, CEC requires most updated reference letter? What does that mean? Should I date the letter right before I submit the app?

While there is no "salary requirement" for CEC, that is at or below minimum wage for most provinces. Mean salary for secretaries is in the high 30K-to low 40K range. CIC could doubt that the job was actually at the "secretary" level and classify it at "office assistant" level (1411), in which case the experience might not be "counted".

If possible, I would try to work the full year at your new position (assuming it is clearly skilled) before you apply.

Yes, the letters are supposed to be "recent," so I suggest that you obtain them within one month of applying.

Jes_ON is right! Based on my quick calculation you are getting paid close to minimum wage.... Now although CIC don't really care about salaries alot but only in those cases where it is still in the margin of that specific job and skill type. I highly doubt that minimum wage can be considered in the skilled type category. But as you said that after 6 months salary can be raised.. so wait until then if you can and in the meantime look for a better job as well.

But one thing you didn't tell us when is your WP expiring? Is it sometime soon than you might wanna just apply with all the prrofs you can gather and hopefully things will work out. Worst case will be they will call you remployer for all the details and if he is helpful than it can be proved that yes you are a skilled category worker.

Thank you all for the kind reply. My work permit is good till late 2013. My second job is paying me $24,000 per year, $37.5 hrs a week. Although CEC has no clear requirement for the salary, it is still my biggest concern. Does anyone has the same experience with me? How did you deal with it? I remember there is a website of Canadian Human Resouce, indicates all the salary range for all job categories for all the provinces, but don't remember exacltly which website is that.....

Keep smiling guys,
