The hubby of my friend emailed the prime minister and asked some help regarding their application. The pm told him that the biggest priority as of now are the refugees from Syria.I thought the visa officers from spousal sponsorship are different from the refugees and asylum category? I don't understand what causes the delay of the application... I'm also very sad bout what the minister have said..I'm ppr since May 20 and until now still no visa :(

The situation in Syria sucks, as it has for years before this mass exodus occured. I feel bad for all those displaced.

However, the situation for those who applied 1-2+ years ago and are separated and/or in limbo also sucks, and I don't think any specific refugee claims should be prioritised in any way that they aren't normally prioritised just because it's the topic of the month in the news.

That's my $0.02 on this heated topic.

+10 Let's bring everyone in the world in Canada who are suffering before our families... The richest countries in the middle east are not even taking any why should we rush the process just for political reasons... anyway I don't know who is giving counsel to the politicians who seems to all want to bring as much and fast as possible... they should follow the polls and the majority of the people and when I ask people around me 9 out 10 are against taking Syrians into Canada

i believe it takes a lot to cross the sea with your young kids to flee the war zone its sad they have got nothing to lose it takes a lot of courage to risk your young kids life and your own to cross the sea walk miles to reach a place which gives them hope

i have been away from my family for long due to this process but i wont blame CIC for prioritizing Syrian refugees

just my personal views hope it wont offend anyone

I agree with you. Our politicians are getting bad counsel that is for sure. They are inviting future crisis for Canada. I am in those 9 people out of 10.

They do not need to cross the vast ocean. Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other middle east countries are at the door step. They are probably crossing vast ocean to fulfil some other agendas.

Technically refugees are suppose to claim asylum at the nearest border countries (Turkey, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Israel). None of the EU countries border Syria. If you can afford to pay smugglers to get yourself to Greece or Cyprus, especially while in a safe country like Turkey, you are really an illegal immigrant trying to pass for refugee. Since they are all SAFE in Turkey, they are no longer considered refugees when they start to cherry pick countries for the best free handouts to claim refugee status in.

As far as I concerned, the moment you leave a SAFE country in which you claim refugee in, you are no longer a refugee.

I support genuine refugee that follow the rules of UN refugee rule status than those who starts to cherry pick countries to claim refugee status. Beggars can't be choosers.

But the kids' lives were SAFE in Turkey. Yes, not the best living standards to be under while in Turkey but doesn't change the facts that their lives are SAFE.

Their lives, both parents and kids, were in jeopardy in Syria until they entered Turkey there their lives are SAFE as refugees.

Yes, staff is being re-distributed from other Embassies and possibly profiles. This might just mean CIC employees process refugee claims in Latin America are being sent to the Middle East, so no family applications are affected. Or it might mean "overstaffed" VOs are brought closer to the global average.

The number of employees and cases (under 3000) is so small (under 0.5% of total) that at most you're adding a day or two. The bulk of processing time is waiting for external government agencies to respond to VO requests.
