Refugee based on xenophobia

Hello all,

Due to recent xenophobia in south africa, local people threatened to kill me reason immigrants are taking jobs from South Africans,
this not the first time it happened, try to get help from police but police can do so much.

we left our house,car in south africa. I cannot go back to my home country being persecuted base on religion, and Minority.
my wife's uncle is a Canadian citizen.

can I apply for refugee status in Canada on visitor visa?
