I had a question about reference letters: I have 2 years experience working at a bank, but I worked through an agency, so I'll need a reference letter for the experience/job duties, right? Who at the company would typically need to provide this, and should I have to get this from the bank itself or the agency?

If you worked through an agency, then the agency is the employer, not the bank. You need to talk to someone at the agency who will prepare a letter for you stating that you were working for a bank through the agency.

I'll give you my example; I am working full time for a company now but I was first hired through an agency. I was made permanent a few months ago. They gave me a letter [start date was the date I was given a permanent status] stating everything. I just copied the duties part of the letter and told the agency to add that on their letter as I was doing the same job when I was hired first.

Hi, thank you for sharing this example, this is really a good idea for those who became contractor to permanent.

So it isn't necessary to have a letter from my supervisor at the bank then? Thanks!

I had a similar situation - contract to permanent with an agency. However, on contact my agency, they said they would provide everything needed except the job description on the reference letter. Their reasoning for this was simple - they were not present to check if I actually carried out those job duties and will not be able to confirm with CIC if they were contacted. They suggested I contact my now current employer for the job description, which I did, and attached a cover letter explaining this situations. If your agency is willing to give you a letter with all the details you need, go for it, if not, you can contact your supervisor and attach a cover letter explaining why you did so.

If you are still working through the agency, then no you do not have to get a letter from your supervisor at your bank.

As silmarilli103 said, if the agency is not willing to add your duties and responsibilities then you can talk to your supervisor at the bank and request him to give you a letter stating your duties and you can attach that to the letter from the agency.

Be very careful with how you treat the time spent as a contractor through the agency - this would be considered 'self-employed' work and not counted for points/CEC eligibility in CRS/EE

I believe it will be Registrar office for an university. My wife got experience certificate for her teaching experience. She had to submit an application for the experience certificate to the Head of the department who then signed and approved it and forwarded to Registrar office. And the experience certificate was issued by them.

Please contact your institution and they will tell you the procedure to be followed.

Best of luck.
