Hello, I've been in Canada for 5 1/2 years now, I just got my new work permit (not open Permit) there is any way I can change it or request an open work permit in order to remain in the country? I heard after 5 years I can request an open permit.thanks.

No - there is no rule that allows you to apply for an open work permit after 5 years. Open work permits are only granted in very specific circumstances. You have to meet one of these circumstances to qualify. You can find this criteria here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=177&top=17

thank you, I just checked it says if I have a temporary resident permit valid for at least 6 months, so my work permit is valid for 2 years I just got my work permit few days before being fired, so can I apply? And if I can apply does it have with and LMIA from another company?

You don't have a TRP. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/inadmissibility/permits.asp

What canuck_in_uk said. You don't have a TRP - you have a TRV. So this rule doesn't apply to you.
