Hi, I'm currently in Canada on a Inter Company Work Permit valid for 3 years, my wife received a spousal open work permit with the kids on study permits for the same period. Currently there are signs that the Canadian entity I work for might close, what rights do i have to remain here and find a new job? How do I change my visa to an open work permit?

You can remain in Canada as long as your work permit is valid. However you cannot change your work permit to an open work permit or work for another employer using the work permit you have now.

To work for a new employer, you need to find a new employer who is willing to offer you a job and also obtain an approved LMIA. You can then apply for a closed work permit tied to that specific employer.

Have you looked into Canada's economic immigration programs like Express Entry? Do you have enough points (470+) to be selected for PR? That would be another option if you want to remain here.

Thanks for the reply, I haven't gone the Express entry route yet.

Do you at least know how many points you have to know your chances of being selected?

It's generally extremely difficult to find employers willing to go through the LMIA process. If you want to remain in Canada, your best bet would be to apply for PR through EE or PNP (if you don't have enough points for EE).

Bonjour messieurs et dames. Moi c'est Koua kouame Noel ivoirien vivant toujours en côte d'Ivoire, je souhaite sincèrement savoir comment faire et obtenir les points dont vous parlez ? Le EE et le RP ?
