hello guys, so i have applied from bangladesh via VFS global (paper application) on 16th of March for a study permit for may intake.
received biometrics and medical update on 17th of may and no update after that on my GC account portal.
last week i raised an webform inquiring about the latest status of my visa apllication, made post about that earlier. see link below:

https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-i...d/threads/visa-update-through-webform.693722/

today i received an email stating "your application to study in Canada has now been approved in-principle" (see screenshot attached)
however, it also states that "Your application will be reviewed for a final assessment and your passport will be returned to you as soon as the Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Bangladesh reopens."

i am a little confused about what exactly it means by "approved in-principle" and "Your application will be reviewed for a final assessment".
i guess what i am trying to understand is if it's approved by any means why does it require a final assessment? what will be that final assessment be based upon?
do leave your thoughts if possible.

PS: my gc portal still shows review of eligibility and background check being processed and still overdue a final decision.

Congratulations, all the best for you.. May I know which webform did you use to follow up on your application? There seems to be more than one Webform website on IRCC. If you can share the webform link, it would be much appreciated..
Thanks and best wishes..

Hi tanzirmahim,

For your reference : https://www.canada.ca/en/services/immigration-citizenship/helpcentre/glossary.html

Approved in principle / Approval in principle (AIP)
Your application is “approved in principle (AIP)” if:

  • you have received a letter from IRCC stating that you meet the permanent residence eligibility requirements, but
  • you still have to pass the medical, security and background checks for you and, if needed, your family members.
Thank you.

it states "permanent residence eligibility requirements".
Study permit is under temporary residence category.
Generally there are "approved in principle" cases for PR, family sponsorship categories as well. So it does not necessarily mean a study permit applicant has to go thru stages that PR, family sponsorship categories etc go.

Hi tanzirmahim,

The IRCC has come up with new Temporary Study Permit processing which will include 2 stages:-
Eligibility & Admissibility.

Your Study Permit application has cleared the first one i.e., Eligibility which according to me is the most important one.

The second one is admissibility which is to check ur Biometrics, Medicals etc.. just to see whether you have any criminal record or not. (As per my knowledge)

I have tried again & again to attach the screenshot using IMGUR. But, I don't why it doesn't get uploaded here. Anyway, this is the link to the screenshots

Once again congratulations. Obivously, I guess you'd have all ur medicals n biometrics done. So, ur just one step away from getting a final decision.
