Really confused

Hi everyone,

Been following this forum for a while and been doing my research and I'm not sure how to approach this, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been in this situation. I'm hoping someone can help me with this.

The background: My fiance is from China. She's employed by a Canadian company who deploys her to many different locations (mostly) outside of China. We'll soon be married during one of her furlongs when she's back in China. Her hometown is in Northern China.

The question: Once married, we want to submit her visa application as soon as possible. Luckily, her application will be to the Beijing office, so we don't estimate the application will take too long. The problem is that there is a good chance she will not be in country if/when they request an interview. Unfortunately if she is overseas at the time, she won't be able to return immediately for the interview (would not look good to her employer). From what I have seen, people are just assigned a date. Is there a chance to negociate the date? She could hold off renewing her contract with her employer, but that's not really an option as she helps to provide for her family.

There is also the possibility that she may get deployed here in Canada for a period of time. I need to know what the ramifications of this would be once we get married (for example, currently her deployment is based on her citizenship... I don't know at what point she loses her citizenship...if at all until she comes to be with me permanently).

I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Other members will be more helpful with the first part of your post, but I can tell you this much - she won't lose her citizenship even when she comes to be with you permanently, as citizenship and right of permanent residence are two different things.
Obtaining Canadian citizenship is a separate process, and if your wife chooses to do so she will first have to live in Canada for a certain number of years, then apply and take citizenship test... but since that is an option, not a must, she can stay a Chinese citizen for the rest of her life.

Submit the strongest application possible and you may have a chance of the interview being waived. However, if there is a timing issue regarding her work and the date of the interview, CIC may be willing to change it for compelling reasons. A work situation is a good reason whereas going on vacation is not.

My husband was forced to leave his job because his employer was unwilling to give him time off to go to the interview (it was held a long way from home and would have taken several days) When we called the VO in Sao Paulo we were told that the interview date was set in stone, and if he did not attend it would not be rescheduled and the application processing would proceed with the information they had available, possibly leading to refusal. Maybe Beijing is different, I do not know...
