Hi all,

I hold a PGWP (valid upto 2017), but my TRV had expired. Since I was planning to visit India, I decided to renew my TRV. But Canadian authorities returned my passport stating that it is damaged, and I should submit a new passport to them. Although damage was only on already stamped and expired sheets (only 10% of them), but anyway I decided to get passport re-issued.

I am based in Calgary, so I have to contact Consulate General in Vancouver. Although there are some instructions on their website, but it is still ambiguous. And their required documents don't exactly match with documents required in case of CGI Toronto.

I have been frantically calling them from past two days to resolve some queries, but they neither pick the call or reply to email. I called BLS office, but they said that they don't deal in the case of damaged passports. Can anybody please share his experience on dealing in the case of a damaged/lost passport with CGI Vancouver.

I have some basic questions:
1. Do I need to apply in person ? Can it not be done through mail ?
2. What all documents are required ? It seems that a few of them needs to be notarized as well, but I need to be clear about the document first.
3. How much time does it take to get the new passport ?

If they are not picking up te phone, I suggest that you make an appointment if that is feasible for you to visit. Yes, you can apply for passport via mail.

Also try to email the CGI directly and ask for their guidance.

Hi,

I am going through the exact same situation. I live in Calgary and have to send in my passport to Consulate General of India in Vancouver. I was wondering if you sent it in by mail? If so, did you use fedex and include the return slip as well? I have a few more questions. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out! I tried called CGI's office but they transfer their calls to BLS and those people dont know anything about damaged passports as they dont deal with them.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I did go personally there. It does not work by mail, so don't believe in somebody who says that you can send this by mail. Their checklist of forms required is slightly different that what you see on the website, especially a lot of additional notarized documents are required.

Checklist is self explanatory. For photocopy of passport, take xerox of all stamped pages (atleast first 5 pages) and last two pages.

Atleast these 4 things are required to be notarized:
1. Copy of Visa/PR Card/ Landing paper
2. Copy of local photo identity card.
3. Prescribed affidavit (second attachment)
4. Two photos

Demand draft of 257 $ should be in the favour of "Consulate General of India, Vancouver"

For affidavit, you can prepare the document by yourself and get it notarized afterwards. One extra thing is that you would need to affix a photo in the empty space in the affidavit besides your signature.

Unfortunatley, I cant post images or links here which I can tell you to look at for checklist and other form references etc.
