Friends,

Is there any limit to carry CAD funds from India at Indian customs? When I enquired with Thomas Cook they say 10k USD. We need to carry more than 20k CAD, I can't open bank account now as it will take 1 month and have no time.

Hi

Even we r also required to take more than 20K CAD with us, so we have decided to carry 20K CAD in the form of Travelers chq and 2-3K CAD cash.

Regards

Will Indian customs question why we carry more money?

Hi There, quick question, am the primary applicant and would be the first to land. At a later stage(in 2-3 months after I land), my dependents(wife and 2 kids(under 6 yrs)) would join me. So are you saying that I need to carry a minimum amount of 20K CAD when I land and then another 20K when my family lands?

Please can you clarify, is there any reference on the cic website regarding the MINIMUM amount to be brought to Canada while landing?

Regards,

You need to show POF for the entire family,CAD 22,170 when you are landing alone. While family follows, no need to show POF. Please refer following thread for more info on this topic.

Can anyone update the timeline from decision made to ppr :D

Case by case and VO by VO is different.

As an example, there is a case MVO sent PPR mail before DM and made DM in ECAS ever after getting PP via VFS.

So don worry.. be happy ;)

Cheers !

In any airport, you need to declare if you have more money that 10k USD. You can carry more that 10k showing legitimate reasons after giving a certain charge/fee. If you don declare and get caught, they will confiscate the extra amount after 10k USD and take the charge/fees still.

Recent trend says that they don ask to Show the POF paper GENERALLY but asks sometimes if you have that with u. But there are also some rare cases when they want to see the POF paper.

There can be countrywide (i.e. Bangladesh ) obligation to carry/take more than certain amount (i.e. 5K USD) of money outside country. In such case, please carry the formal governmental declaration on the matter with you to avoid hassle any where regarding showing POF less than 10k CAD in cash/traveler's cheque.

In many cases we do unintentional mistakes which can be regarded as "illegal" and put us in hassle that we don want.

So better to avoid that !

Thanks

Can anybody help me with this. Actually I done with my landing procedure , still waiting for my PR card. And I am planning to visit US next month by car and come back to canada. So will I be needing any travel document for this or COPR and passport would be suffice for reentering canada?

Hi, thanks for this. While I go through the thread,

Lets me give an example by saying I have liquid cash of approx..8K CAD. Over and above this, I also have Fixed deposits in Indian Rupees worth approx. 23K, which I dont want to convert to CAD. I have a job at hand in Canada and 8K would be more than sufficient to survive for a month after which I will get my regular salary in CAD. Even after this arrangement, should I carry all the 22KCAD in cash/travellers cheques?

Also can I carry 10K cad and inform the officers that when my family will land, they will bring in another 12K along with them, would the officers agree for this?

Regards,
A

Things to do upon landing using Calgary as reference
Step 1-Get a mobile phone (Wind is the cheapest but poor coverage, FIDO,KOODO,VIRGIN etc. are on the high side with minimum of $65 without tax for unlimited calls & 500MB-1GB plan AND wind offer $40 for unlimited calls and 3GB).Requirement for getting phone is government issue ID, & credit check/Cash payment
Step 2-Go for Social Insurance Number Registration (SIN) at Harry Hayes Building, downtown Calgary depending on your location as there are other centres for the registration as well. Requirement for SIN registration is your Landing Document & your travelling government issued ID
Step 3-Go to the BANK and open a newcomer account. All the banks are equally good depending on what you want (RBC, Scotiabank, CIBC, BMO, TD etc). Please ask for a void cheque upon opening the account. Requirement for account opening is your Landing Document & your travelling government issued ID
Step 4-Go to the registry to register for Alberta health card. Requirements for the health registration are government issued ID, landing Doc, and one of Tenancy agreement/Void Cheque/Utilities statement/Bank statement. If a particular registry refuses the void cheque try another one please.
Steps 1-4 can be achieved within a day after landing.
Step 5-Search for accommodation while still staying with your host or in the hotel as the case maybe. Try rentfaster and Kijiji
Step 6-Call the Calgary education board for your children placement in school. Note, this is purely by appointment only.
Step 7-Start visiting some immigration supporting centres like CCIS, ICS, and CIWA, Drop-In Centre, WIN, YWCA etc where you can get referrals for CLB test, furniture, bridging and upgrading program, food bank, benefit forms completion guidance etc
Step 8-Enrol into a driving school if you are coming from a country where your driver’s license can’t be exchanged to Canadian one and prepare to write your knowledge road test.
Once you have your accommodation, the next is to get a car to go around as the present weather condition is extremely cold.
Please go for accommodation that has utilities inclusive as a newly landed immigrant.
Step 9-Welcome to Canada….........

Thanks for sharing your exp

Is there anyone who can share similar experience / guidance for Vancouver .

Thanks

If you got PR under AEO (Arranged employment Offer) then no need to show POF. But if you got PR under FSW with out job offer, showing POF at port of entry is mandatory. Primary applicant should carry POF during initial landing. so it is advisable to carry POF with your for 22k in CIC accepted formats.

These funds could be in the form of:

cash
documents that show property or capital payable to you (such as stocks, bonds, debentures, treasury bills, etc.) or
documents that guarantee payment of a set amount of money, which are payable to you (such as bankers’ drafts, cheques, travellers’ cheques or money orders).
