electrics are of no worth there..

@jayampw

1. U can get the passport renewed from Indian Embassy in Canada
1&2: Once u have PR card, no need to have Canadian visa
3. As important as it is to have a valid ticket.
4. After completing 1460 days in 6 years (if for every calendar year u have stayed for at least 183 days) http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/become-eligibility.asp#time

5. Its NOT legal to have 2 valid passports of same country. However, visa on cancelled passport (in most cases) remains valid if u present new and cancelled passport together.

P.S: Our passports are expiring in 1 year, u need to relax. Its nothing to lose ur sleep over.

Friends

My child's visa will be expiring in 2 years. We will be moving to canada sometime soon. I assume we'll have to come to India to renew the passport before it expires.

1. Any idea how tedious will it be to renew my child's passport and get the canada visa stamped when we come to India to renew?

2. Since we'll have PR card from Canada by then, do we really need to care about the canada visa stamp on our Indian passport?

3. How important it is to hold a valid India passport? Can we come down to India anytime after passport expiry and apply for renewal?

4. How soon can we apply for Canadian passport?

5. Is it legal to hold two valid passports?

Sorry for too many questions. Hope you understand what I'm trying to cover. Any info/discussion on this topic will be helpful. Having this understanding is very important as we don't want to be doing any mistakes..

Bad idea.....Winter is coming ;)

Mid Nov to Feb-end/March Beginning are the coldest months in Canada and yes, it'd take some time for us to adjust being from warmer countries...It has to be experienced to be believed....And hiring is also less during this period....And if u travel in mid-March, u have mere days left on ur Visa validity....God forbid, some emergency happens and if ur unable to travel, u forfeit all the hard work for PR...

Travel by Oct-end...or if not possible, plan for a short landing in Sep then a permanent move next year....

I'm doing the same :)

Hi arkscan,

I too planned to have short trip this year.. is it enough to stay a week to do all the initial formalities or need to stay longer.. iwe have arranged our relative to collect our PR cards..
another query if we take some amount via travellers cheque and did not use in canada is it possible to collect the money once return to india.

thanks

Hi Seniors,

My time line is on left.

Paid RPRF last saturday & medicals done 2 weeks back and uploaded on CIC. when could i expect the DM & PPR?

@bass2009

Passport stamping can easily take 4-5 weeks, if u submitted it through VFS, u can check with them or call embassy (usually embassy will not entertaint u, to avoid rush of calls.. but no harm in trying ur luck)

Take every thing and anything that u can take within allowed weight. HOwever, u shud be aware of 110 and 220 volt issue... so take only those appliances which also runs on 110 V as converts from 110 (canada) to 220 (india) are expensive hassle. In general, Electronic r usually affordable in Canada (specially if u buy on promotion/sale).

'Yes unspent forex can be encashed back (Check the regulations in ur local country, in India-> it must be encashed within 6 months of coming back)....You get the money back once u deposit the unused TCs...

Hi Friends,

Just posting the info I received via PM from a forumite....Hope it's useful for someone if necessary...

In case u lose the PP with Stamped Visa (God forbid ;D)..

file a Police Report (in general, in all cases, even for re-issue of PP, Police report is a must)..then raise CSEs with ur VO..they will respond asking u to re-issue PP and then submit the re-issued PP along with a DD for CAD 30 in favor of "Receiver General of Canada" payable at Canada..

And they will re-issue the Visa....:)....So don't panic even if u lose ur PP...(but try not to lose it lol)
+1 for sharing this info
