Thanks a lot

I will be planning to land there next year 2016 .Is it fine ??

Thank you so much for the descriptive explaination... it is a big help!

Hey Exellenters,

this quesy may not be relatedt o FSW completely but

please help in answering my question..... I applied for the NSNP (NOVA SCOTIA NOMINATION PROGRAME) and they are requesting additional documents for name change (I changed my last name so my educational docs. have the old name and passport has the new name)

I sent them the GAZETTE OF INDIA stating my change of name but they say its not sufficient they need an official document for name change.

As far as I knew GAZETTE OF INDIA is the most official document available in INDIA, i have sent them an email asking them what they need precisely... CAN ANY ONE SUGGEST WHAT OTHER NAME CHANGE DOCUMENT MAY BE ACCEPTED BY NSNP OFFICIALS?

Thanks in advance

Yes as long as you land by Feb XX- whatever your Visa validity date is :)..Suggest you read up on Canadian winters though..It'd be a nasty surprise otherwise...:)

No they are off too.

Once passport is cancelled, Visa wont be valid.
Do not get a new PPF yet. land and get one issued from the Indian Embassy there.

Does anybody here know whether my PR visa will still be valid after renewing passport?
I got my PR visa and planning to land in June and my passport expires in august. So I was planning to renew my passport before doing my first landing.

So can anybody advise me if my PR will still be valid if I renew my passport or do I need to do something to get a new visa in the renewed passport.

Nothing here is a grave issues per say.
Its always advisable to send both so that a linkage can be established. However very high chances that they may give the visa on the new PPF without any issue.
Worst case scenario, they may ask you to send the old one too.

Either ways, you will get visa for sure.

i had a query regarding passport submission. would be great if people could give some suggestions
My passport was renewed in Feb 2015 , but after PPR i have sent only the new passport for visa stamping. Should I have sent the old one also ? It did not make sense since visa is to be stamped only on current passport. Also NDVO did not say anything specific about submitting the old pp as well.

During RPRF/PCC stage I had updated them about the new passport , sent copies of both old and new passport.

Best to land and ask CIC or may be Services Canada. This one is quite tricky.

This is an excellent question, one to which I also seek an answer. Will hope someone truly knowledgeable will respond. But based on what I've read, PR doesnt just go away at the end of fifth year and can be extended. What I've read is that without the residency requirement citizenship cannot be granted. Additionally, once both have "landed", I do not think they discriminate as to who was the "primary" and whether or not the "primary" has maintained status (example, what if a couple were to divorce? Would that invalidate the PR of the "secondary"? Don't think so).

That all said, best to wait for a response from someone who actually knows about this specific scenario that you've posed.

13.15. Valid visas in expired passports
If an expired passport contains a valid visa counterfoil, the counterfoil can still be used since the expiration of the passport has no effect on the visa's validity. Holders of a valid visa may continue to use their visa until the date it expires even if the visa is in an expired passport. Visitors can fulfil the visa and passport requirements by presenting both the renewed and expired passports containing the valid visa counterfoil to a BSO when seeking entry into Canada. The Regulations state that visas should not be issued longer than the validity of the passport. However, due to pre- IRPA cases, it is possible to encounter visas in expired passports.
It is not possible to "transfer" a valid visa into a new passport. If the holder of a valid visa wishes to have a visa placed in their new passport or if the passport is deemed ‘not valid’ for political or security concerns, visitors must apply for a replacement visa by submitting a new application and paying the replacement document fee in accordance with R311(2).
