You can apply for the re-entry visa at Buffalo:

http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/new_york/imm/visa_temp.aspx?lang=eng#REQUIREMENTSCANADA

You must provide proof of lawful temporary status in Canada.

If you are in Canada with a study permit and need to apply for a TEMPORARY RESIDENT VISA to travel abroad, please provide:

* A photocopy of your current permit and
* Originals of your most recent transcript and
* Proof of current enrolment

If you are in Canada with a temporary work permit and need to apply for a TEMPORARY RESIDENT VISA to travel abroad, please provide:

* A photocopy of your current permit and
* A letter from your employer or other proof of current employment.

Have a letter from your current employer that states you're going on a vacation and is going to work for them when you come back.

Yes as long as it is good for at least 6 months but your re entry visa might have an expiry that is the same if not earlier than your passport expiry date.
