French always opens more doors in Canada, both in terms of immigration and career. Still, personally I'd wait till the end of this year because we'll have seen the fate of FSW. The govt says the FSW is put on hold due to the travel restrictions and recently the prime minister said if vaccine cards are a thing then travel could resume this summer. The vaccination plan is to deliver every canadian at least a single shot before September ends. These all indicate that the govt intends to end/ease restrictions before this year ends. And if they're truly only concerned about economics, then there'll be no reason left why they wouldn't resume FSW.

If, however, FSW is not coming back then I'd just buy a PR (education route, it takes you 2 years and costs you about CAD50k) instead of going through the hassle of learning French.

Not a single word on travel restrictions. Trudeau only talked about public health restrictions. If you actually search the word "travel" on that page, you can verify that there indeed is not a single instance of it.

"“There is hope,” Trudeau said, but added that restrictions need to stay in place until at least 75 per cent of the population has at least their first shot and community transmission is better controlled through testing, tracing, and tamping down on spread."

"“We can’t ease public health restrictions until cases are way down. We all want to have a summer where we can see our loved ones and invite friends over for BBQs. We can have that summer, we can have a one-dose summer,” said the prime minister. “That’s what I’m excited about.”"

I don't see any clear signs of good news for FSWs in what's said.
I'm trying to stay positive. Even if there is nothing about travel restrictions in there, things are progressing bit by bit. Today they've reached 40% of people vaccinated with the first dose. We all know that we'll have to wait more time, there is no reason to stay complaining about that.
Maybe in less than a month, we'll see the same abrupt decline in cases that UK had.

I don't see any clear signs of good news for FSWs in what's said. The cases will never be "way down" until perhaps 2025. I fail to find any logic in this response. The UK now has herd immunity through vaccinations and past cases and they still get daily cases of 2000-3000.

Don't worry, cases will be way down this year. Lol 2025. Covid will exist for a long time, but it will become significantly more manageable, with oral treatments being studied now, and with the possibility of annual boosters to control the variant spread. Yes, UK still has 2000 ish cases every day but thats down from a peak of 60,000 daily cases. Their hospitalisations from covid are also way down, and that's the primary objective of vaccinations, to reduce hospitalisations to manageable numbers.

Vaccinations are getting into full swing, most people will have the first shot soon if they haven't gotten it already.

Things are looking up, but the govt is still being cautious.

If we keep on track that is very realistic.

The only problem is we're stretching the first dose's period to its very limit right now given most of us will get the second dose 4 months after.

Ideally that can be shortened with greater supply.

There are still people who are going to get their first shots in June/July, if they have to wait 4 months to get fully vaccinated that will delay things a bit. If they can make it so everyone gets their second dose by latest September then we'll be good to go.

We'll be in Cancun in December.

Australia just announced in their annual budget that their borders won’t be open to temporary visa holders and international students until mid-2022. They plan to vaccinate their entire population by Nov this year.

This is going to make FSW more competitive as scores of people (like me) who would’ve otherwise tried for Aus will now direct their efforts towards Canada.

When the Authorities doesn't give certainty of their plans and keeps silence, people starts speculating. This is obvious. It is human to speculate. It is human to err . As long as they keep the silence about FSW's / ALL PROGRAM DRAWS, more folks starts to speculate.
The responsible Authority conducting the draws has the least responsibility of letting the pool of candidates know about the plans. If they say they are stopping FSW's, folks don't have problem, they can plan and change their lives.

This excuse is getting old. When an FSW applicant becomes a permanent resident of Canada, assuming they are allowed entry to the country, they immediately start paying taxes just like the rest of the population. What an FSW applicant brings into Canada that CEC&PNP don't is at least $13000 in cash (proof of funds). So on top of the taxes everybody pays, FSW people bring liquid cash into Canada and start spending that money immediately for needs such as housing. Technically, turning an FSW into a PR is more profitable for Canada's economy than turning a CEC/PNP into a PR.
What? I'm FSW, but a lot of CEC people paid for an education here... This does not make any sense.
