I studied in the UK myself couple of years back and didn't close my account. I have obtained my UK police report and it doesn't include anything about unpaid debt. I don't think there is need to worry,Hi guys,
I need help, maybe someone has info.
I studied in UK 9 years ago and didn’t close my debit card when I left. I don’t know if there is any debt is left (I mean negative balance) or since banks renew cards by mail without informing customers someone else might have recieved and used it. I can’t find my card and bank can’t help. I have no idea what happened since (i.e gone to court etc).
I need a police certificate now. Can unpaid debt be shown in police certificate in case I have it, even if it has gone to court without me knowing ?
Thanks!

Debt is not a criminal offense and will not interfere in your process.thanks for the reply So, in case even if it’s gone to court? I was told somewhere else that it is also crime and can be shown in pcc(
Yes, it won't interfere but it might have an impact on proof of funds.Debt is not a criminal offense and will not interfere in your process.
thanks for reply. Even if bank files a police case?Debt is not a criminal offense and will not interfere in your process.
Thanks, but how is that possible? It’s account that I used 9 years ago while I was a student in the UK.Yes, it won't interfere but it might have an impact on proof of funds.
Well, it may not hold waters in the end but I wouldn't want to leave such case for the CO to decide. Try to find out from the bank or something just to be sure. Thanks, but how is that possible? It’s account that I used 9 years ago while I was a student in the UK.
The bank will not file a criminal case against you for unpaid debt... at best they will file a civil action for recovery of money... they would only file a criminal action if it is suspected that you are using your account to commit fraud or some other financial crime... even in that case they won’t go to court straight... it will be referred to the police for investigation... and you would have been notified by the police of an investigation against you. anyway, without digressing too much... it is very very unlikely that you have a case in court... or a police investigation... thus, your debt shouldn’t be a concern for you vis a vis your pcc... you are overthinking it!!Thanks, but how is that possible? The odds of a bank taking you to court over a unpaid debt is slim, they would rather settle out of court. If for any reason they decide to file a court case, I believe you would have been served a copy of the claim. If you haven't been issued a claim, then who are they making the court case with?thanks!
I’m just worried if there was debt and it is gone to court. Don’t know whether debt court case is shown in pcc or not.
