I am on the east coast. I am traveling through north florida at the moment.

Starzibal - you don't see it for yourself, but you will see it for everyone else. Similarly, I see rating options for you and others but not for myself. That way I cannot affect my rating.

Thanks, but why do i have negative rating? Did I do something wrong?

some person didn't like something you said. unfortunately, we can't see who did it or why someone will do it. I will give you a +1 to cancel that out.

Thanks Champ. I will give you good rating for doing that.

And I will rate you up for being good :)

When I first became aware that each of us has a rating under our name, mine was already -6! I guess I must have annoyed someone, or two.

Then there was a discussion of these ratings, and some kind souls raised me to zero. Not quite a super hero, but better than -6. The effect of the discussion was to pique my desire for approval and recognition. I guess I have low self-esteem. (Tone is lost in email messages; this paragraph is facetious.)

So, who wants to ente into a mutual admiration society for a few days? I'll rate you highly, you return the favour; we both end up looking like fine people.
There are things in life a lot more important than self praise.

"There are things in life a lot more important than self praise."

True, but there are few things more enjoyable. Even when done in jest.

ha ha. and to add to that, self praise is okay if you are doing the other more important stuff too. (i am just being silly)

And, to my surprise, someone rated me down one because of this light-hearted exchange! I am more and more against this rating system.

Toby, how do you know that somebody rated you down because of a particular post? Maybe you got rated down because of some post from a week ago or a month ago.

This is another problem with this ridiculous rating system; not only do you not know who rated you down, you don't know for what post either...

I also seem to have been rated down.

Toby - I might have been guitly of having rated you down. I thought I rated you up yesterday after reading your post but now I wonder if I rated you down by mistake. I hope I didn't. :(

I rated you up for the self-realization!

Guys, this post is in jest and is inherently upbeat in nature.. play along ;D

Okay - how about this compromise, we keep this thread light-hearted and none of us rate someone based on this thread.

Since this has become/now is playful, lets leave it like that and those who don't want to have a moment of fun don't have to participate but those who want a little break here can have one and - since most of us here think the ratings are, ummm...'amusing'...if we don't rate from this thread no one can object.

OK, I get it. We don't know who rates us or why; it's like The Trial, a play by Kafka in which a person is tied to a chair in a room, and people come into the room, behind him, and accuse him of crimes he did not commit. The discourse is completely illogical, and the protagonist feels quite helpless.

That's our rating system; we feel helpless to understand it, except we smile about it.
