Hey! I recently submitted my application for spouse open work permit. My pgwp will be expired on July and my husband's will still be valid until 2017. I called CIC and the agent confirmed I am eligible as long as my husband is working as NOC O, A or B but my layer said there is possibility that I will be refused since I had 3 year pgwp already. I am not able to extend it or apply another one. However, I just wanna give a try so I submitted my online application on April 2. I will keep you posted when I receive the result.

Hello Andrea so there is a possibility of rejection ? I heard one can get extension of another 1 year or you can get another 3 year WP with a new sin number which has expiry same as your husband

What about max cumulative duration 4 yrs?

I got one way where we can extend our work permit.

My 3 yrs wp was going to expired in june 2016. So i met my lawyer he gave me suggetion for apply wife's study pemit.

So i applied my wife's study permit and did application for my wp extention. Yesterday my wife got study permit upto 2018 and i also got extention up to 2018.

I hope this post may be helpful for someone.

This is case specific I guess:

1.when both wife & husband have PGWP and main applicant (H) WP expires, then W will apply to SP, this is one situation (here WP for H is 50-50)

2. Only H have PGWP which will expire soon then W(who never had PGWP) will apply for SP (here H WP is guaranteed ! provided if an applicant shows required POF etc etc)

3. H came to canada directly on WP and it will expire soon so W applied to SP , here WP for H is guarantee

Now we have to experiment by applying to CIC as to how this works. because I know someone who has situation 3 got wp extended happily. Personally my situation is option 1 and we will be applying to SP next week

Another challenge to apply for WP based on spouse SP is challenging as no one here have provided the timeline, the CIC website have 77 days for WP and 6 weeks for SP. So really some one who applied in this situation could tell us how this works.

faizy bro, I think you are ok at this time because you have time till november 2016 and your wife will get PGWP by June - July then why are you panicking ? ur situation is still in control as u can apply for ur WP after ur wife gets PGWP somewhere in july. However my situation is worst i would add the WORST WP expiring in may 2016, AINP called me thrice to notify that they will NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS would not process my application because I applied in 2015 February. They said 1000's of application are in queue before i applied. My contact have somehow tried to request AINP to give some decision before my WP expires and finally they made very clear that they cannot help anyone with same situation, basically they meant just pack ur bags :"(

faizy, it doesnt matter even if the wp is expiring they wont help that is what they made clear to me in the phone 2 times, and the funny thing is they suggested me to get LMIA or try in EE.

I think maybe they will never call me at the end and let me daydream almost two years !

My husband applied on December 2014 and received file number on January 2015. Last week he called AINP to ask for any updates and they said his application status is on process but honestly no one has touched it yet. So disappointing. I am eligible to apply through Post graduate worker category but can't apply unless we withdraw my husband's application after one year and three months
