Hi wonderbly. Thanks for the answer. Is it 90 days or 150 days that I have to switch within? Moreover, I am applying as a dependent for PR from my wife in November (public policy), and will be quitting or joining another colleges after that. Hopefully, this process will smooth out than without applying for PR. Do you think there will be a problem in this process? Thanks.

What counts as an authorized leave from your studies?
There are a few cases where you may be able to take a leave of up to a maximum of 150 days from your program of studies and still be considered to be actively pursuing your studies.

You don’t need to tell us if you’re taking an authorized leave, but you do need to provide proof that your leave is authorized and that it’s no longer than 150 days, if we ask for it.

It counts as authorized leave if:

  • your school has authorized a leave from your study program for:
    • medical reasons or pregnancy
    • family emergency
    • death or serious illness of a family member
    • any other type of leave your school authorizes
  • your school has closed permanently or because of a strike
  • you’ve changed schools
  • you or your school deferred your program start date
    • In this case, you must start your studies the next semester, even if it starts sooner than 150 days, and get an updated letter of acceptance.
You can’t work on or off campus during an authorized leave from your study program, even if your study permit says you’re allowed to work in Canada.

Hi. They can offer me for MS but then will have to write thesis. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, I don't have any data or content to write up my thesis even for MS.
that is worth it man. MS thesis is a 6-7 months commitment only. You should pursue this instead of starting afresh. Data based research can have limitations and you can explain your limitation in the thesis defense. It is way too simple than Phd degree.

This is a comforting news. So changing schools can allow us 5 months for the transition. This is good. Thank you so much for this link. I truly appreciate that.

I will definitely seek for this option. I will talk to my supervisor and will let him know that he allows me to do MS (I know the funding will be cut, but even if I have to pay, it is okay to contribute six months or so and get some data and get going. Thank you so much for your valuable suggestion man.

yes, but trust me man hanging is difficult with every two weeks of his silly and useless talks with no productive guidance (productive seems way too heavy, at all is good). I hope I can handle that much pressure till then.

Well for ms thesis, I will start by reading the already submitted theses. Your university must have a repository. First, convert your program, ms thesis is not supposed to be path-breaking or anything. Simple ideas can make a good thesis. Just convert first and then look for other already submitted theses. I was on the verge of quitting myself. However, I stayed, and then one night a simple idea came to my head. I used that idea to complete my whole thesis.

Professors are like that everywhere. Most of them are old and not abreast with the latest research. They want you to tell them what is going on. Are you doing something in Machine learning? MS thesis is not tough at all. WHich school you are in?

Thanks, will text you shortly.
Hey Sam,

I can understand your situation, it is frastruating. I would go with the option of converting your 2 years, writing thesis and earn MS. If there is any option to transfer your credits to another DLI and continue with your lab and new supervision I would explore that as well. I don't know how long your PR application will take, but if you can pair the time for both parallel, then its easy to make decision. Changing to other inferior program may create some issues with your pgwp, but this depends on VO. Some use " Progress toward completing intended course" as criteria to decide your application in future. And this is within the IRPA/guidelines. I'm not asking to hanging there, but keep on gathering lots of information and make informed decision. Did you try to talk to your supervisor face to face, informing him your challenges and your intention to quit if things are not on your way? what did he say?

I have not talked to him about my feelings but he knows that things are not going good with me because I don't having anything to do as of now. I am waiting for the right moment to quit.
