Hello! I have a quick question here regarding a situation myself and my partner have found ourselves in with plane tickets, dual intent, and applying for spousal sponsorship externally.
Background info: I am a Canadian citizen and my partner is a British citizen, and we are currently living in the UK (I am on a working holiday visa) and we are intending on moving to Canada shortly together. Through a series of fumbles by her employer to get her in the country via Express Entry (massive fail), we're scrambling to get together an external spousal sponsorship package so she can join me in Canada for good. We plan to submit the application on July 1.
Problem: We purchased round-trip plane tickets that have us going from London to Edmonton for what was supposed to be a 3 week visit from mid-June to mid-July, but due to finances we're now planning to change our plans to have that 'trip' be our moving trip instead. Because we plan to submit her external sponsorship application in July, but we will be entering the country together in June and plan to wait out the application process there, we're confused about what exactly to do with her return ticket and with what to tell the border agents. Do we tell the border agents that we plan to submit for PR? Do we just say she's visiting? It's not quite a dual-intent situation because we haven't submitted her application, correct?
My own instinct is to rebook her ticket to return her to the UK just short of the 6 month limit and at the border let them know that we plan to submit an application for PR - but I'm really not sure.
Would love to have some guidance here!
